For what it's worth the Bird/Magic RC is more important in the hobby.
    1970's Steelers, Vintage Indians

  • Rice
    PSA 9 = $515 with Pop 760 out of 15,410
    PSA 10 = $10,500 with Pop 50 out of 15,410

    Bird/Magic
    PSA 9 = $1800 with Pop 500 out of 5393
    PSA 10 = $17,500 with Pop 19 out of 5393

I would think the Rice RC has more upside as a result of the pricepoint still being "manageable" = more folks can afford.

It would also appear that the Rice 9 is more difficult to obtain the Bird/Magic as 5% of the Rice submits have been 9 or 10 while the Bird/Magic shows just short of 10% for 9/10 submits.

As stated previously, the Bird/Magic is more important to the hobby, however, the game and the fans being drawn to the game seem to be getting further and further distanced from the short shorts era. At some point, perhaps even @ $1800, that card becomes top heavy as people will not be able to afford it AND less people will be interested in it.

If you were asking which will be worth more, I would say the Bird/Magic RC will continue to outpace the Rice RC, however, your question asked about rate of increase, I would have to think the Rice RC will increase at a faster rate.

Just my 2 cents - but what do I know.

....and the Magic/Bird is a lot closer to $35,000 than it is $17,500.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

  • If you're going to invest, index funds tend to do well and have low fees. So I've been told.
  • True but all you get for that kind of investing
Is a piece of paper..... This way you get cardboard

PSA 9 Magic/Bird card is probably a $2500 card these days. I am a buyer at $1800 if anyone wants to sell their Magic Bird PSA NQ for that price.

At these prices I will take the Bird/Magic card to increase at a higher rate in 5 years. Being an unopened collector though I think the Bird/Magic showing 1980 Topps wax pack at a population of 15 and a sale price of roughly $1,000 today will also far outpace the four options above so that is my investment choice.

I was trying to use the public facing PSA Price guide to make the point that the Rice RC has more upside.

    Thanks for underscoring my point.
