Is eBay purging accounts?

Hey all,

Received the following email this morning, even though I've logged on within the last 90 days. Is it legit and if so, anyone know their reasoning behind it?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, since you haven't used your eBay account for a while, it will be deleted if you don't sign in within 30 days from the day this email was sent.

If you are not the account owner or the email address is no longer associated with this eBay account you do not need to contact us. We will delete this account in 30 days.

Ebay's advice is: "Go to My eBay, and then click the Messages tab. If you don't see the same message there, the email is fake."

This is likely an attempt to get your account password, especially if the email contains clickable urls.

I may be wrong but I think any email from Ebay will address you by your name not your user name.

did you get there through the link provided in the email or by going on ebay and looking at messages in your account? Do not trust those links.

I did not click any of the links from original email. Opened eBay in a browser and went to my messages.

Dormant ebay accounts seem to be the ones that are used by hackers/scammers, so I'm guessing this is one reason why ebay wants to purge them.

Wonder if it is possible that they are getting rid of some of the accounts. I have noticed so many zero feedback winning auctions lately, with the item being relisted or second chanced within 24 hours. Seems like many sellers are having a second shill account. Not saying this is the case here, just a reason for ebay to purge some of the accounts

30 days of inactivity is a ridiculous reason to delete an account. It should be a minimum of 6 months.

It doesn't say 30 days, it says "you haven't used your eBay account for a while".

I misread the 30 days he had to sign in. Still, the OP said he had been active within 90 days, so it still seems a little premature.

I received this email about a month ago, it was on an old account that I used for non card related items which I hadn't used in a few years. Seems to make sense that they would want to clear them out.
