Picked up my first basketball card and it is quite a doozy

Great mail day today as this one just arrived. I tend to usually stick with just baseball but then this one became available and so I picked it up.

I also want to give a BIG shot-out to one of my pals, Matt Miller who I obtained this from. I have gotten to know Matt on a personal level for about two years now and he is always a pleasure to talk to and deal with. Incredibly knowledgeable/insightful about the hobby and is always helpful on giving me advice when asked. He has owned some of the nicest cards I have ever seen in this hobby and for me to own something from his PC is awesome. He has had a real impact on the way I collect cards today as oppose to when I first began collecting again in the summer of 11.

Thanks again Matt.

Now that's the centering I like seeing on a 10. Great card!

that one is a blazer, Marc. the 2nd year card of Jordan is a bear to find well centered and that one is dead nuts centered.

Wow! If PSA had a pristine 10.5/11, that would be it!
    Superb pickup Marc!
  • Thanks fellas. Totally digging this one myself.

    Edit: Spelling as usual. Ughh
  • Great card. Even with its recent rise in value, I think it has room to grow. Second year card of the GOAT, lower production, tough to find dead centered.

    Congratulations on a great aquisition.

CONGRATS Marc ... enjoy the card.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • Very nice. I had one I pack pulled and put in a screw down before having it graded with Beckett a while back. It was pretty good except for centering which as someone said, was the one thing I couldn't affect.
  • Drooled all over myself looking at that one. Congrats and thanks for sharing that Gem with us!

Great looking second year Jordan, congrats!

I love that card, I own 9 BGS graded ones.
  • Amazing pickup with stellar centering and eye appeal. The 87-88 Fleer set is lost in the shadows to the 86-87, but it is still a wonderful set. When I was younger, I hated the boring look of these cards. As I age, I can say they have a classic feel to them now.

The first card my mother ever purchased for me was an 87-88 Jordan, ungraded, for $55. I still have the card to this day.

The biggest lesson I've learned in this hobby, and in life, is that if you have a strong conviction, you owe it to yourself to see it through. Don't sell yourself, or your investments, short. Unless the facts change. Then sell it all.
  • Thanks again for everyone who checked it out and left a comment. I've been reading a lot about this set and supposedly Fleer manufactured a lesser number of these cards than the prior year because the 86 Fleer didn't sell good although there is really no proof that that is actually 100% accurate but 87 Fleer does seem harder to come across as 86 is all over the place still if you look on EBay in terms of packs.

One thing that I really liked about this card was that it is the 2nd year card of probably the greatest basketball player ever and maybe even the most recognizable athlete alive today. The 86 issue in a 10 has jumped from about a $10,000 card to now a 16,500 easily which means that I will never own one I'm sure. Even the 9's have jumped from 2k to now about $3,300 on average in the last two. This card in a 10 is still even less that the 86 release in a 9 but make no mistake, this card has jumped in price over $1k in just the last 8 months alone and I see huge potential in this one as the 86 has officially become too pricey for pretty much everyone else who wanted it in a 10. The pop on the 86's in a 10 is around 220 and yet for the 87 it's about half that number which just means that supply and demand is in high gear which could be the reason for the recent price jump.
  • i know you wont like to hear this, but i wonder if it could cross to the rare BGS 10.
