Ali is the most forged signature in the world.....I wouldn't touch it without a cert from either PSA/DNA or JSA

When did he say it was signed? And why is 86 inscribed?

My guess would be yes, the way he writes the year seems similar to others. Try this site

my initial reaction is that it is probably real, however the sharp points on the "M" really bother me

if the "86" is believed to be indicative of the year it was signed, i become more skeptical of authenticity as he was still in ok shape back then and his signatures were generally very legible, even the in person stuff (as this is represented to be)

how big is this piece? that's another factor i'd consider

This piece is large I'll post a whole pic Monday. Guessing, Ill measure Monday again 2'x4'.
Should have taken down all the info the seller gave to me. His father worked security in Vegas, and he got he after a fight. He even told whom Ali was fighting.
Was a big fan and was able to get this piece signed in person. "or as he says so"
I can't get hurt on it don't have to much in my eyes anyway since it a nice presentation.
Thanks for the opinions so far

Ali's last fight was in 1981 or so?

  • I'd be curious to know whom Ali fought in 1986. Astonished, in fact.

However, IT IS entirely possible that piece would have been signed by him in Vegas that year, considering the fact Don King promoted a heavyweight boxing tournament there during which there were several fights Ali could have attended.

I've stared at the sig a good amount since you posted this. At first, I thought "Nah." Well, "Un." image

Now, I'm kinda thinking maybe. Hope you get it authenticated. Would be cool if it's legit. Good luck.

I may have confused the facts, either way gonna have it looked at. But not up on my boxing history didn't help me.

I'd personally stay away at this juncture...; as I re-read this thread it also strikes me oddly that a Security Guard (or anyone else for that matter) would be walking around with such a large piece to get signed in the first place..

His father was security guard who got him in to see Ali, and get the item signed, I've already bought the item. It's just another matter getting a good or bad, on the signature , however I still like the piece either way.
  • Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but people lie. I don't care if the guy says he held the sign while Ali signed it, if it cant be authenticated, then you are going to have a difficult time selling it. Period.

I was once interested in a particular auto that was very expensive. Fortunately I know a guy who knows James Spence personally and James said no good within two min of seeing the picture text of the sig that my friend had sent him for me. The seller must have changed his story about 3 times but kept insisting that it was the real thing. Just cause someone says its real doesn't mean it is.

I know people lie, been burned more than few times. Like I said I like it, even without the signature . Was hoping PSA would have given me a yea or nah on it.
  • They are pretty much giving you a nah.
