So my son subbed his first set of cards at the national, with some of my failures (haha)...13 pretty expensive pokemon cards. Well, of course I knew what was coming so I had the phone camera ready when he opened up the box. I don't remember a better feeling than seeing his shock, satisfaction, enjoyment - you name it!!!! Thought I would share the experience...here are some pics as he scored 7 PSA 10s and 6 PSA 9s:

I have seen crazy prices for some of the older high grade material.
Thanks for sharing.

<< <i>That is awesome! Great to see you able to share that moment with your son. It doesn't get better than that. >>
+1
I have only known the - "what did I miss" look on my face when I get them back.
Let us know when your son submits his next batch as I enjoy living vicariously through his eyes when the PSA sub comes home.

Wishing you well with your pursuit of Mickey. What did you think of Joe Orlando's latest "Joe's Tweets", referring of course to that priceless gem from "The Canadian Find"? Hope someone will enlighten us to the history of the Canadian Find. I vaguely remember it, but the grading of only the second PSA 10 GEM MINT 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle warrants a nice feature article in Sports Market Report, including with it the history of the Canadian Find. Hope it happens.
In the mean time, bask in the glory of helping your son with his Pokemon cards.
How well I remember the winter of 97 or 98 when Burger King had those 57 DIFFERENT Pokemon Kid Meal toys. What a ridiculous promotion. We drove and drove and ate and ate. I think that's when I starting growing out of my clothes! Took me almost 20 years to lose the weight, and I think it took me ten years before I could warm up to Burger King food again! A frantic collector could not tell what toy they were getting, as all the toys were in a POKEBALL enclosed in a non-see-through white plastic bag. I was only able to decipher part of the company's packaging code, but with the list laboriously made by fortunately saving each bag, at least I could determine if the toy was one we did not have. Hey, that spared us 1000s of calories of "not good for you" grub. Most of the time, the store managers were most gracious and accommodating. As I recall, we wound up amassing 38 of the 57 toys.
Really, this is absolutely the very same principle as the postwar regional / food issues involving a free prize sports trading card or coin in which you could not tell who you were getting ahead of time.
Continue to have a wonderful day, Bro.
By the way, did you notice the KING-SIZED Mickey Mantle gem that Mile High Auctions is fixin' to bring to the block for their fall 2015 auction? I refer to an even more elegant card made of Mantle during 1953. Chance of a lifetime.
Sorry, I am not trying at all to railroad this beautiful thread. It's just that I'm ignorant on how to send a PM, and I just wanted to ask for BELZ's opinion on the Mantles, since he collects Mick.

From a strictly personal and somewhat humorous perspective, I too recall needing my medication before checking the results of my PSA submission. It helped.
He shall have beautiful teeth.
GREAT look on his face. THAT'S what collecting is all about!!!! Congratulate him for me.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

He's opened packs with me since he was 4-5 years old so I've seen how he's developed into a quality card collector...don't think he will ever be over the top OCD like his old man, but hey, he will inherit the Mantle collection so you never know...thanks again for viewing and I'll let him know the kind words.
Now if you see a pic of me that excited, then it means I cracked an 86 topps fb box and get some gem looking Jerry Rice cards!!! I have always had the worst luck opening packs/boxes, so I usually have the "ho-hum oh well face".
Congratulations to your son and to you for keeping a tradition alive!
This thread has made my day; one of the best of the year.
Later, Paul.
