My white whale...1954 Wilson Franks Williams

A card I have thought about for 15 years. Simple, eloquent, classic. Not a high grade, but it presents very well.

I just picked it up in the PWCC auction. 2 surface creases but I hardly notice them.

What's so special about that example you have is its square top/cut. Many have a sloping cut, which for some collectors hurts the overall eye appeal. I personally would prefer a square copy with unobtrusive creases and corner wear over a sharp-cornered copy with the usual tilted cut. Just one of the idiosyncrasies of cards that make them so interesting. Again, major props. The floating pack of franks has always also added a certain Warhol-ian charm to the card, a quality which few baseball cards can claim image

  • Didn't really know about this set before. I like how stark and simple it is. And then a randomly floating pack of weiners. I love it.

  • Honestly, you have good taste in rare cardboard, and that's not a bunch a blubber. A white whale of the first rank. Indeed, your card presents very nicely---every single entity printed on the front of the card is clean, unmarred, and crisply registered, which is vital for a great-looking Wilson Franks Williams. Thanks for sharing your good fortune, and the fact you had wanted one for fifteen years. I think that's very significant. Sincerest of congratulations on catching Ted Williams's greatest card. I don't think you'll ever get tired of gazing at that baby. Well done. ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)

    Great pickup image

I was watching that card, and wanted to bid on it, but just couldn't spend that much at the moment.

I did pick up Brent's '48 Leaf Williams PSA 3 in the same auction.

You said "white whale" because the background is white. I see what you did there.

    Sweet card! Congrats!!! image
