Interesting comment to me from Reed at BBCE on facebook

BBCE posted a picture of two really nice factory sealed 1980 Topps BB wax cases.
This was my comment, "It still amazes me that stuff like this is still out there."
Reed's response, "There's more out there than people think. This particular seller was off the radar for over 20 years, and I believe he never offered these cases for sale during that time. We'll try to keep on finding stuff like this! And, if you think this is cool, we've got a seriously awesome deal coming up that will blow everyone away"
Hmmmm, what could be in that deal that will blow everyone away?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
Prefer to buy in bulk.

Maybe BBCE found a third-party company that has been printing 1987 Topps and 1988 Donruss every year since '88, explaining the surplus of this junk wax available.
I would love to see an early 70s wax case, like a '72 high numbers case.

Nice
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Any combo of those would be sweet.
<< <i>I'm surprised nobody guessed anything from the 50's or 60's, as anything unopened from those eras would blow me away. Is it just too far fetched? Or are certain 70's unopened product just more desirable? >>
Too far-fetched.

Hard to believe that there's anything in boxes from the 50s. 60s? Hard to believe also.
70s? Why not.
<< <i>I'm guessing 1986 F BKB Case. I heard that they were close before as a part of a group, but maybe Steve decided to go on his own? >>
Didn't they swear up and down that these no longer existed because they hadn't seen one? At one point they were offering 1000 bucks if anyone could show them one.

Maybe someone just collected on that and the conversation was started?

There are multiple guesses for 50s on the first page?

The story that was told to me by one of the group buyers is that they offered $250K for the case but the owner wanted $300K. This was a least a couple of years ago. He said looking back, they should have done it. He had a $150K+ car in his driveway, so I had no reason to doubt him. This part I don't entirely recall correctly, but I want to say it was a coin dealer that had the case. The guy I talked to was in the precious metals business.
He doesn't know what happened to the case, but a 1986 F BKB FASC box would bring out a lot of money.
"Next week Steve and I will both be at a deal on the East Coast, and it is shaping up to be an all-time great one from a number of perspectives - size, dollar amount, key premium items, scarce products, and the story that goes along with it. I was already there last month and loaded an entire truck, and think we just barely scratched the surface. Took a bunch of pics to document everything, and can't wait to finish the deal so we can share the entire story."
My guess is some 1970's stuff. They keep saying how 70's is getting harder and harder to find. I say 1950's and 60's is too tough to find. It's just fun to speculate.

In my opinion, Reed would be better off saying nothing about possible future deals until they are completed and BBCE has whatever the
contents are in their possession. Posts like Reed's may serve to make boost his ego and create a "buzz" in a group like this, but they
also expose information that could be considered a competitive advantage to others which could jeopardize the deal.
There's plenty of time for stories once the fish has been landed. Until that happens, talking about it prematurely can sometimes result in losing
the deal or making it a harder deal to complete.

When Bob Balanda advertised in SCD, I used to talk with him from time to time.
He used to have one big source - he told me the guy had cases and cases and cases of 70s stuff - this was around 1992.
So, ya never know?
Steve told me he bought Bob out a while back.
I know some who pick something up, hit the mailbox every day anticipating it's arrival? Well, that's how I felt each week - waiting for SCD!
In fact, I remember some would get is special delivered to get an edge on the buying competition!

There were two guesses of 1952 Topps Baseball. I pretty much excluded 52 Topps because...It's 1952 Topps, it's a given that everyone in this hobby would love to see or hear about a stash of unopened 52 Topps. 52 Topps is the "go to" when it comes to anything vintage related.

There is at least one person who has multiple 52 Topps wax boxes (high series I think). He has been offered big time $$$ for a box and turned it down on more than one occasion. The good news for afficianados like us is that boxes DO still exist. I only hope to have the chance to see one in person.

I think you're right--I discovered this photo of a young Steve Hart--seemingly off the coast of NY with a young Reed and crew nearby after the big find!!

Steve looked a lot like Lloyd Bridges when he was young!
<< <i>That guy to the left of Lloyd Bridges must think he's better than him. Looks to me like its go time. >>
Very solid Seinfeld reference.
