Vintage cards

Hello everyone. Where would you recommend selling vintage, other than ebay? Old sets, bulk vintage commons, plus stars and rookies. I don't do ebay, but am starting an online resale store. I got it all at an auction, but I really don't do vintage. Any suggestions?

Take some pictures and try the Buy Sell Trade (BST) forum on here. Lots of vintage collectors on here.

To get a better answer, more information would be nice. Vintage? 1950', 1960's 1970's? There's a BIG difference. You also don't mention condition, as the "vintage" gets younger the condition of the cards becomes much more important IMO. Pictures would be a great help as well.

Why not use ebay? It's the cheapest and best way to get your items in front of a lot of people.

If you refuse to use ebay, would you consider consigning to one of the ebay guys and have them list them for you?

As mentioned the BST forum is one way to do it, but I have much better luck selling on ebay than on the boards. To maximize prices you need people bidding against each other, but since you won your items at auction, you already know that.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

  • It's all mid to late 50s-mid 70s. I'm not an expert in condition, but it looks decent. There was one box that had nothing but creased cards so it helps to organize. I only went to the auction cause of some nascar advertised, but couldn't pass the cards up. I prefer not going the ebay route, time saving from listing thousands upon thousands of cards. I'll take pictures and upload them. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try moving some here. Lots of stars and rookies. A couple really nice Clemente and Mantles too.

Get the Clemente's and Mantles graded! Mantle and Clemente collectors pay TOP DOLLAR!

Other HOF rookies should be graded as well. Sell them on ebay. The stars can go individually and the commons and semi stars (don't need to grade them) in lots by year or team.

You don't have to spend a ton of time if you don't want to, but why give the stuff away?

Decent is unfortunately not a grade LOL.

    How about a few pictures?

  • True, decent isn't a grade.I'd say after looking at the link you provided, anywhere from 6-8 on average. The creased box I wouldn't say any is in grading condition, the sets I'd say average 6 or 7 with some better and a few big names lower.I have to really go through those to make sure every card is there. The team/player lots are a great idea for the commons. The high numbers I'll have to figure out the best way to move those.I'll get a couple pictures up in a bit.If there wouldn't have been a disagreement over a bunch of rugs that sold right before, they would've went higher than what I got them for.So I'm not too worried about bulk stuff.I'll think about grading key cards, but maybe I'll see what interest is around here before I decide.I appreciate you taking the time to offer your advice!

Some junk stuff was thrown in,but this is just 2 of the big bins of stuff plus a couple monster boxes on top. http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac300/mediumeresale/IMG_20121023_232831b_zpsr1hwo1sp.jpg

The Mantle and Clemente came out of what I think is a whole set.I didn't even know there was any football in it,so I'll really have to dig more when I get a chance. This just a sample done quick with my phone, but I'll go through more and put up some more pictures tomorrow. Thanks to those who offered advice I appreciate it.

It's hard to tell the condition from the photos. Would need higher res and the entire card viewable to check the corners and centering. Looks like the Mantle and Clemente are pretty badly off center as far as I can tell from the photos provided. Still nice cards though if you got the stash for a good price. The Mantle typically sells for a few hundred even in lower mid-grade condition.

    Depends on so many factors.

I didn't look at the links, but if you feel you got a good price when you bought them, you could always take a few easy pictures of the group and post them here on the buy sell trade board.

Say you spent $200 and want to see if you can make a quick turnaround.
Post the picture and description and say you are selling for $400.

I am sure you will either sell them to someone here or receive offers from interested parties....

Pm if you have any questions and I will be glad to help, if possible...
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

PSA 5 Mantle's go for around $150.00, a comparably centered 6 went for about $225.00. The Clemente might be a 4, goes for $35.00 or so.

Scanners are cheap. You should have one. Still can't see much from your images, but with a little time, you could make some nice $. If you really don't feel like spending the time, at least inventory the cards without creases and get some good pictures. You should have no trouble making a profit (depending on your investment) quickly right here on the BST forum.

If you want to make a better profit, at the very least, scan the HOFers and list them on ebay or consign them to someone who will. Cards that you expect to go for over $100.00 should be sent in for grading so potential buyers know the cards are authentic. Checking ebay completed auctions will give you a very good idea as to what you can expect.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  • The Mantle and Clemente are from a whole set. I'll add some pictures later of a few other cards from the set. I appreciate the advice from everyone. I'll also put up some pictures from the stars and rookie singles. I'm working on a list of the commons too and hope to have that done tonight. I did sort a whole 1964 and 1970 set too. The Mantle from the 1964 is really sharp. Thanks everyone and I'll get some more pictures up later tonight.
