I took a chance on this. It looked okay to me but I'm no expert. Dumb bet or do you think it's authentic and unaltered? This is the one card that I said I wanted to buy already grades and wouldn't touch raw but since the prices were running away on me.. bought it anyways
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

<< <i>Given the card's condition I'd bet that it's real. >>
+1, just the centering alone leads me to believe it's real. Most of the fakes are centered fairly well, while the originals are frequently off significantly L/R.
If my memory serves me there is an issue with the defenders hand and something with the writing on the back.
Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
Any chance you're in Wisconsin? I'm pretty sure I sold mine to a dealer about 30 minutes north of Milwaukee.
1) on most fakes Jordan appears to be bald. The clarity of the card is bad and the top of his head is almost white, as if he looks bald.
2) on the reverse, the abbreviation for the word "rebound" should be capitalized "REB", counterfeits will say "reb".
3) this last one is difficult to explain... On the reverse, the black line that is directly above the stat totals will run almost all the way to the border to the right, there will only be a small space between the line and the border (as it shows in the example given). On counterfeits this gap is much bigger and much more noticeable. Following that same line to the left (towards the word "totals"), the line will go over one decimal point. On counterfeits it will go all the way over I believe four decimal points, also easy to notice when you know what your looking at.
Here is a counterfeit star Jordan, sorry for no linky

<< <i>It's authentic. I was hoping for a 4 but happy it's slabbed. >>
Great to see
<< <i>I guess I still do not fully understand the .5 grade. I am glad for you the card is a 3.5 instead of a 3, but if the main point of a .5 grade is the centering, then how could this card be a 3.5? Anyone with half grade experience, please explain. Thanks, Tom >>
That's not how BGS does it.
BGS rates the 4 sub grades and sort of "averages" them (there's more to it specifically but I'll save the space for now).
A 3.5 overall card grade is probably indicative that the lowest sub grade is a 3 (I'd guess surface or corners or this one). Some of the other subs are higher than that but you generally only get an overall card grade up to half a point higher than the lowest sub grade.
This isn't 100% exact, but it's close enough for the overwhelming majority of BGS cards. There are instances where the overall grade is a full point higher than the lowest sub, but that requires the other 3 subs to be much higher than that sub, so it's doesn't happen a lot.
PSA won't slab these cards...well, unless they're autographed but then it's only for the autograph.
Anyway, CONGRATS OP! Great job - this is a tough card regardless of the grade.

Sorry, one more thing. The half grade bump from PSA is not all about centering. It's also about the sub grades, even though PSA doesn't indicate those on the case.
Half grade bumps on PSA cards are indicative that the card exhibits qualities of the next highest grade but is not enough to fully bump. It's tricky, and the half point cards in PSA are still pretty thin compared to the overall populations, and the pricing is equally tough to determine on the half grades (i.e. they don't split the difference generally, they price close to the lower grade most of the times I've seen).
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED
<< <i>Strange that PSA doesn't grade Jordan rookies. >>
I agree. It's not just Jordan that PSA is missing out on Drexler, Isaih, Wilkins, Barkley, Alajuwon, Stockton and Ewing.
Congrats to anyone who bought one of these. $18,100 with seven days to go. With what has happened to other cards not surprising but a monster move.
What a crazy price! Here's mine - bought in 1984 as part of a set for which I paid about $12. Oh, how I wish 11 year old me took a bit better care of this! Oh well - still graded a BVG 7 when I sent it in earlier this year. Just not quite an $18K card.
