New Member Introduction

Hi all Forumites!
I figured I'd introduce myself as I finally made an account on here. I've been active on other forums/blogs, but frankly the activity level has dropped a bit. So I'm looking around the neighborhood, so to speak, to see whats going on here. I am not just a coin collector but also am an avid reader when it comes to the early history of the US Mint and coins struck by the mint for other countries. Recently, I discovered that as an alumnus, my alma mater has afforded me access to JSTOR and other research portals. The wealth of information is mindblowing and I'm finding new stuff everyday. Just yesterday I was reading the Mint Reports from the SMS years and a lot of the political wranglings of the era was interesting to say the least. That's really what I'm focusing on for right now. As for coins I currently collect, I'm a fan of Ikes, Franklins, and cherrypicking specifically. However, in a broader sense, anything that catches my eye from early half cents to modern commemoratives might find it's way into my collection. I've only submitted to a TPG twice (PCGS), so I stuck with the one I went with first and here I am. I currently have my 2nd submission in process, so I'm checking my grades everyday to see if they pop up. It's like Christmas morning I tell ya. Well, I'll stop rambling and post a couple of True Views from my first submission. Enjoy!

These two are the only ones I still own. The others have found happy homes!

Submissions seem to be pretty quick, so you shouldn't have to wait until Christmas for the results.
sweet first post here from one who loves sms coins myself
perhaps you'll have to share what you've found from actual mint records on sms issues
did you come across any information on 1964 sms coins?
@lasvegasteddy - Re: SMS Reports - I will have to look some more into the various years available. I'm sure they can be obtained as they are public information or I could be wrong on that point. However, one good (open/free) source I've found independent of the traditional journals is the Newman Numismatic Portal. They have a bunch of Gobrecht Journals as well as a spattering of Mint Reports. I know for certain 1967 is in there.
Sorry, edit: Link
I believe you will enjoy your stay.

Welcome aboard.
so strange how they were minting coins with back dates on them like "1964" quarters and cents were being produced in 1966 at san fransisco
then these sms set...if i read this right
1965 sms sets were still being produced in 1967
interesting stuff can be found in these reports
Excellent post. Glad you're here.

Enjoy your visits here!
<< <i>So now you're in the Fishbowl. There are whales, sharks, guppies and nasty stinging jellyfish here. Thankfully a lot of the Real Bozos are gone. Your first post is good. You didn't violate the Cardinal Rule. You didn't try to sell us anything. •••••••••• now as you read here the Coin World is H U G E. try, My Friend, to Learn some small part of it Very Well. Regardless how well You end up knowing it...someone here Will know more. Many of know a few of these folks. Oh and OMG there are "Devils Advocates" here and if you ever make a logically Obvious statement like "the Sun rises in the East", someone will contradict you. Grin and Bear it. Develop a thick skin. You may sometimes need it. Remember, to be a true " Coin Collector" you need to way overspend on a lousy coin and take an 80% hit when you sell it. >>
What a wonderful positive post welcoming a new member! NOT!
Wecome to the forums wooglot. I had high hopes for Ikes years ago. They still seem to be languishing.
Please keep you hands and arms inside the car until the ride stops! ..which it never does!
