I found a Beautiful Peace dollar this weekend !

Check this sucker out.
I went to a local show this Sunday, It's relatively small, maybe 20 dealers.
I found a group of capital plastic square holders in a dealers case off to the side. He didn't have any lamps on his cases but there were about 8 of these capital holders with various coins in them. Most had some type of toning, there was a Morgan in there that was hideously ugly... dark splotchy spots, etc. Then there was this Peace, a 31-S Lincoln, another Morgan (which I also bought) an Indian cent, etc.
The Peace dollar caught my eye, I asked to see it and noticed right away it was an electric blue. I had to use another dealer's lamp to get a closer look at it and sure enough, dripping with luster!
Long story short, this Peace and one other Morgan had pretty remarkable color so I bought them both. The guy told me they had come into his shop from an estate appraisal he had done the day before.
I think it's an UNC example. The reverse eagle feathers just may have evidence of wear... I'm back and forth on that. Feel free to share your thoughts on the grade and/or toning.
I moved the lamps around a bit on the obverse so you can see it from a few different angles.

It is certainly uncirculated and nice! Now PCGS time and I hope it passes!

I've seen cherished coins way darker than that....
I think the toning is a bit past what is desirable, bordering on environmental damage (a dip would likely reveal impaired surfaces). I doubt it would straight-grade, but I don't see this bringing huge money in or out of a slab. All the same, it's a perfectly nice one to keep and enjoy.

I have a friend here in town who's convinced our hosts claim to be able to sniff out artificial methods it's nothing but a gimmick to bring in more coins.

<< <i>Thanks Tom. I wonder if this is a canidadate for the "sniffer"... whatever the hell that is.

PCGS never claimed the Sniffer could detect AT. It simply detects specific foreign substances that are sometimes used to enhance the appearance. Putty, Blue Ribbon, nose grease, etc.
Lance.

Lance, you might as well user the "sniffer" if you are in search of NOSE GREASE!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

It's also pretty easy to get that toning naturally.
I don't see how anyone could condemn that one.
That isn't your typical quick AT job.
<< <i>I don't think that coin is NT, but I do think it's MA to certain people. >>
+1
I also think it's attractive.
