Topps banquets, Awards and Rookies

Topps had Rookie and or Award Banquets, dinners or events from at least 1959 to 2004. The first was in 1959 and the one in 2004 was billed as the 46th annual ( see below). I have a run of the programs for those events from 1959 to 1966. The 64 program is the most recognized because unlike the other paper booklet programs it was in the format of a boxed card set that included the Pete Pose selection. In those programs the players selected for inclusion on the all rookie card subset in the next year's set was announced. In it's 1959 set Topps had a Sporting News Rookie subset, but starting in 60 the subset, with trophies on the cards and given to the players at the Banquets, were chosen by the "fans" via pack insert ballots and solicitations from youth groups like the Boy Scouts.

I have not found any related programs from 1967 through 1980....is anyone aware of any ? If so, any scans ?

Beginning in 1981 the Programs resume and were titled Baseball Achievement Awards, which continued to announce the all rookie team selections. I have those programs through 2004, with the exception of 1982, 1983 and 2003. If anyone has any of those years for sale, let me know. I would also like to know if anyone knows of any programs post 2004

  • I never knew these existed but they are really neat.

    Thank you for sharing.

Are they fairly rare or do they come up fairly often?

These are incredible pieces of history. Thanks for sharing. Like the others said, I had no idea of their existence. IMO, one of the coolest things in all of sports cards is that little yellow trophy.

I didin't know those programs existed. Very neat to see.

One question - where is the 1962 All Rooke card with Fred Whitfield (Cardinals) and Boog Powell? Surely you have it. I have that one and the 1960 All Rookie team with Julian Javier for my Cardinals team set collection.

Seriously. Topps had shirts on their site a year ago or so with just the trophy. I bought several for my brothers and I.

    That '59 McCovey is insane!

1964 boxed card set below. There are 36 'pages" or cards in the set. They are only numbered through 35, but there is a card 34 and 34A. You can find the pages on ebay from time to time, and every once in a great while the whole boxed set. The individual cards, particularly the Rose, are pricey
