PCGS Bulk Submission questions

jclovescoinsjclovescoins Posts: 1,990 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm thinking of submitting 50 of the coin an currency dollars, some kennedy chronicles dollars and a few other modern coins under the bulk submission program.

How much of the packaging do I need to send? The entire thing including the dollar bill from the coin & currency or just the capsule? I don't care about first strike

Also, what is the best way to ship?

Better call Customer Service; I believe bulk rules are pretty strict and mixing of denominations or series may not be allowed. In addition, I understand a minimum of 100 coins is required.
    When in doubt, don't.

If you don't care about First Strike, you probably only need to send the coins in flips/capsules. The best way to ship would be registered mail in a flat rate box unless you need it there faster.

If you don't follow all the rules for bulk it gets real costly real quick.
Recommend staying with regular submission and pre-screen it down to ten of what you think is the best. Then rethink another submission when you get grades and billing back.

It's something on the order of 50-100 of the same item. When I considered doing this for rolls of single date BU silver dollars, I was told that the min amount I had to send had to guarantee around 50-60 ending up being slabbed in the min requested grade. So that would have suggested at least 100 or more coins assuming I picked quality ones to make that min grade. For hundreds of the same style coins, its pretty easy to hit the min quota's.

The Bulk Submission game is based upon you knowing what you have in that, you must specify a minimum acceptable grade which will affect your overall charge for the submission. If 60% or more coins meet your minimum acceptable grade, then those that do NOT meet that grade are returned at no charge. If Less Than 60% meet that minimum grade then those that do not grade are returned with a charge of $5 each. Given that, I would not have MS/PR69 as a minimum grade which means, you'll end up with come coins in holders that will be difficult to sell.

But first, before you do anything, you have to submit the Bulk Submission Aggreement to PCGS presuming that you are a Collectors Club Member. I suggest you read the rules very carefully because there is no forgiveness on 1st Time Bulk submitters. The provided link may or may not be outdated.

Since what you are sending cannot be put into coin tubes, I'd suggest just sending everything in a flat rate box provided you have the minimum number of coins to submit. You ARE limited to "FIVE" different dates/mintmarks/denomination so hopefully you have an additional 50 coins over and above the Coin & Currency Dollars. Also, you have to pay an additional fee if you want PCGS to return the packaging.

Also note that incomplete or incorrect submissions will be returned to you with a bill for $75.

The upside to Bulk Submissions is that grading appears to be a bit more liberal. The downside is that it can add up very quickly! When I was submitting bulk coins, grading fee's varied depending upon grade and current market value with my higher grade results costing me $40 per coin.

The best advice given was to CALL PCGS!
You can get info from people that have done a bulk submission. You can get advice.

At the end of the day, since you haven't done it before, and you aren't a dealer, your best thing to do, to minimize any issue on YOUR part, is to call PCGS, outline what you want to do and if you can do it with bulk submission...and if not, what is needed to get to that point.

Not wanting to call them could easily cost you $$$$ if things aren't done right.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
