Board thoughts on my EBAY card I have for sale..

it's a 2005 card with both Ryan Braun and Nelson Cruz autos numbered 2/2 BGS 9 Auto 9. I am getting no love on this card and it seems like a decent one to me. Cruz just hit 40 homers for the third time I believe and Braun is a very good player also. it's both of their rookie years.

Not trying to prop my card(well maybe a little), but I am kind of amazed at the lack of interest. Any thoughts anyone?

  • IMHO, maybe it is the fact it is BGS graded. I won't buy anything not graded by PSA.

I think the fact that they both got popped for PEDs is hurting your interest. If neither had been caught I think you'd have a lot more interest. Braun's cards went in the tank after he got caught and Cruz's cards weren't that popular even before he was suspended. He's had a couple great years since coming back but there is probably still a cloud.

Not a lot of demand for Just branded cards. There's a triple auto with both of them that hasn't been touched at $90 for a /3, so $500 for a /2 is probably scaring away any best offers for fear of offending you.

    +1

Significantly lower the BIN price and you may attract a comparable offer.

Would agree on most comments. Minor league cards, with only a few exceptions are worth considerably less than their major league counterparts. Secondly, Braun and Cruz cards have never been what I would consider to be "high demand". I would start lowering your BIN by 10% per listing cycle until it is sold OR you reach the point you would rather keep it in your collection than to sell.

The Bryant Correa Trout Schwaber etc cards are the hot ones now- not sure if those guys generate much love from the modern collectors

I think it's the ped thing coupled with the high bin price keeping people away

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I think that as long as the Cruz/Braun/Rogers triple auto card from the same set is not moving while it is priced at $89.99, yours won't get any bites at the price point you are at either.

2 busted cheaters. Even if you included 2 $100 bills with the card you wouldn't get $299.

The problem you run into for the last 25 years is "who hasn't cheated". The list is very short for the superstars. So does no one buy 1987 through 2008 baseball cards because someone "cheated". Jeter is about the only one that no one suspects.

A lot people suspect Tom Brady and the Patriot Org. have done a lot of Cheating (maybe worse than taking PED's) . I guess you will be glad unload all your rookies to me for $1 apiece, huh?

Part of the reason why very few cards from 1987 through 2008 are worth more than little to nothing (aside from massive overproduction) is, in my opinion, because of PEDs. I believe people frown more on cheating at baseball than other sports. Further, air pressure in footballs is more akin to doctoring baseballs. Without debating which is a worse offense, card values suggest that PEDs are far worse.

People generally considered to be clean have seen their card values hold up (see, e.g., Gwynn, Ripken, Larkin, Griffey, Jeter, Ichiro). Others have often lost 90-99% of their one-time value (e.g., McGwire, Palmeiro, Bonds, Braun).

Edited to add: "more than" in first sentence.
