My strangest mech error yet

I've found over 400 mech errors on cards I've subbed (granted, I do tend to sub a lot of foreign and odd ball items so maybe my percentage of error is higher than most, about 8.5% overall), but I just had an order pop with the most off label I've had yet.

My card should have been labeled as:

1979 Quelcom, S.A. Ases Mundiales Del Deporte-Large 54 Cruyff

but instead was incorrectly labeled as:

1966 Batman Riddler Back O-Pee-Chee 21 United Underworld

?????????? Don't know what to think about that. I did not have anything related to Batman in my order anywhere, so I am confused as to how it could be so far off what the correct one should say. Also, it was not the first nor last item in the order, but in the middle, so it is not a situation where the person's order before or after mine in numerical succession may have had that item previously loaded. I wonder if the grade is correct or if the entire thing is irrelevant to the item? Sure makes errors like the wrong year, manufacturer, or misspelling of a player name seem minor compared with this crazy one.

Now, I don't have the shipment back in my hands, so I can't say for certain if they accidentally put a card from someone else's order into mine, but if they did, then my card is missing. Oh well, into the enormous mech error pile it will go...

Since it's not a sequence issue, my guess would be two digits got transposed or barcode does not match the cert #. That's an odd one for sure.

ETA: If you do receive the other card, hopefully it's the PSA6 (pop 1 none higher w/only one other graded) image

Okey-dokey... I sent in a sub of vintage tallboy, mostly 1920's & 1930's, various sports with a few non-sport in the mix as well.

In the middle portion of that order, I have an item that is labeled as:

2011 Itg Between the Pipes Aspire Jerseys AS14 Robert Mayer/Carey Price Silver

and it is supposed to be:

1920 Artistas Eminentes Cinematograficos - Serie IX - 13 Charlie Chaplin - Chocolates Comet back

Does everybody get mech errors in their orders as far from accurate as I do? Just wondering, since it happens on a fairly regular basis in my orders.

I have had a few mechanical errors, but nothing on that level. Mostly mine were misspelled names, or parallel cards that were not identified as such.

I have had several "mech errors" over the years. Almost always on "oddball" items. Often I have the information correct and PSA puts the incorrect info on the flip.

Bound to happen when dealing with relatively unknown issues, although it is frustrating.

Agreed, and I always expect a few mech errors in every order related to narrowing down the specifics of the set name or year of issue which is perfectly understandable considering the material, but when they flat-out put on a label from a card that is completely different in every way like they did with the 2 in this thread, the mistakes have nothing to do with oddball specifics, and everything to do with QA/QC lapse in not proof reading before printing/sealing/shipping.

+1, I would still guess it's digits being transposed or off by one somewhere, perhaps the Spec #s? Somewhere the process is breaking down.

The basic average mech errors are common and not exciting, so usually I just throw them in a box with the rest until they build up to about 100 or so and send them in for fixing. Occasionally, the type of error just stands out from the others, like the two above in this thread. I found another one that caught my interest in a recent order. Two cards in successive cert numbers were switched, so that each card had each other's flip. They were from different sets too. What I noticed about it was that the first, second, and third lines of text on the flip as well as the card number were all switched, but the grade wasn't. (i.e., card 1 had card 2's labeling but card 1's grade). I wonder if these will be fixed correctly the first time I send them in, or if they will forget to leave the grade with each respective card and just swap all the other info?

How many tech errors have you already sent to PSA to be fixed?

    Edit:

Took a closer look. I have found around 400 over the past 5 years, but 100 or so out of that total have been piling up and are yet to send in.

Man, I thought I was having better luck lately, hovering at 9% mech error over several orders over the past month, but just had another one pop tonight with 24% errors (13 out of 55). Oh well, at least the fix is at no cost.

Thanks, that is the right advice. As soon as I saw the report last night, I then wrote up an email to customer service detailing each necessary correction w/ request to hold shipment. It was after hours though so not sure if it will catch them in time or not.
