1986 Jordan - opinions needed

Wanted to get some opinions on this 1986 Jordan in regards to the centering and if any tilt is visible. I am seeing a few percentage points left to right in centering. Thank you in advance for the help.

Isn't this one of the 'get it graded no matter what condition it's in" cards?

    Hiya Keith

As the curmudgeon of centering - and just about as anal as they get?

If you're considering this card? I'd pass - don't like the centering T/B at all; it's only off by a bit R/L - don't really see a tilt?

The tilt is ever so slight, but I agree with Mike in that T/B centering is less than ideal.

If it's going to be off t/b, I'd rather have more meat on the bottom than on the top.

Thanks guys. As part of my deal for the 56 Mantle 8.5 I gave up a sweet Jordan PSA 9 card, so at some point want to get another in in either PSA 8 or PSA 9. Figured it would be easier to replace the Jordan than find a Mantle 8.5, and Jordan's have gone through the roof lately - along with everything else!
  • My digital caliper and math says approximately 52.1% to 47.9% L/R, and 60.3% to 39.7% T/B. Very slight left-leaning tilt possibly.

What type of digital caliper do you use?

Good luck replacing your Jordan. I agree with your assessment that it will be easier to find a nice Jordan in 8 or 9 vs. another 8.5 Mantle. If you are getting a great deal on the Jordan above and are looking to flip, I would buy it. If it is going in your PC, which is what it sounds like, then I would pass on the one above. It has very average centering for an 8 and I think you would be happier waiting for a better 8 or 9 (or 8.5 which if you can find one is probably the best value for Jordan RC's). The card is always being offered in all grades and I think its prices have actually stabilized for a little while, so I don't think you risk much by passing on this one and waiting.

Great points and I am passing on this due to all of the great feedback above. I was thinking the same thing and grabbing an 8.5 since price wise it is closer to an 8, but features wise it will be closer to a 9. Thank you again for the advice - now just need to find an 8.5 that is centered for around VCP.

Glad we could help you with your decision. Knowing your collection, the card pictured wouldn't have made you happy for long. So rather than getting one just to have one, I think you are wise to hold out for a nicer 8/9, or as you said an 8.5. For a harder to find card, I would say it can make sense to just get one that you can flip later when buying your new card if you think the card will go up while you are waiting for the nicer one. Sort of like a hedge against card price inflation. The MJ is traded frequently enough and I believe prices will be flat on that card for a while after its recent run-up so you should have a good window to obtain the card you want. Good luck again and I look forward to seeing it posted in the monthly pickups thread.

i would need some more info like asking price, what the flip says and all that jazz. (not actually asking for that info)

jordan rookies don't necessarily go down over extended periods of time

but w/ that being said, she wouldn't be the one that get's filed away forever in my collection,

but if the price is right and the numbers work and she could be a possible stepping stone...

then perhaps if she isn't misses right, she could be misses right now.
