May Special Grades Are In! (Scans added 9/6/15)

I have been lucky enough to be included in a couple group subs that Paul (Stooge) has put together. First off, a big thank you to him, as he has run first class subs on both occasions. Anyway, the wait was painful as both the April and May subs seemed to take the full allotted time. The wait was worth it for me on both occasions. Here are the results of my May subs. As some of you who have checked the September Pick Ups thread have seen, I have picked up one of my whales this month (Mantle, woo-hoo!), but I am probably as excited or more to get the cards from this sub back even though the most valuable card would probably around $100-150. For those of you who don't know, my favorite set is 1986 Fleer BK and one of my favorite player collections going right now is Anthony Davis (the UK BK player, not the USC RB). I had previously subbed most of my best 1986 Fleer cards and these were the last of the gradable cards I had been sitting on. Thanks for reading this far, and I will update this thread with some scans, hopefully tomorrow or Monday when the cards should arrive.

It has been rough waiting for the subs to pop lately, but it was worth it. Steve does all the work by sending nothing but top shelf quality cards.

Hoping to do many more subs with Steve, as I don't mind doing the work sending them out. For me it's a lot of fun. Here was my section of the sub:

Paul, you had a great sub too. You crushed the Heritage section of your sub with all your 10's. When your entire sub is 9's and 10's you know you did a pretty good job selecting cards to send in. Thanks again for letting me be a part of your subs.

Bobby, yes the Bird was a nice hit for me. I'll have to double check, but I actually think the PSA 9 Lewis Lloyd is the highest valued 1986 Fleer card in my sub for the grade. I feel this sub pretty much hit on the higher side of my expectations. I try to go into each card with a range of outcomes expectation. For instance, I thought all of the HOF 86 Fleer cards were 8's with only the Bird having a good chance at getting a 9. I thought the Drew was a 9 with an outside chance at a 10, I thought the Robertson had a good chance at a 10 with a 9 as a floor. The Lloyd I felt had an 8 as a floor with a possibility for a 9. Since it is a low pop common, I figured it was worth the sub since it had at least a fair chance at the 9. So essentially, with the exception of the Robertson all the cards hit the high side of my expectations.

Eric, you know me well. That AD Prizm USA card is one of my favorite cards from this sub (along with the immaculate patch and the Spellbound inserts). All the AD's will probably end up in the PC but I will shoot you a PM later.

Thanks Doug. About time for a 52 auto or T206 update!

    Slum22,

I completely forgot to say image on the '51 Bowman Mantle. That is a really sweet card. Nicely centered I might add! That is a huge whale and a must have card for any collection.

The only reason those '86 Fleers didn't get 10's were probably because they were a nut hair to the left/right, otherwise they were all there.

    Super great cards.

Thanks Paul. Here are the scans of my sub. The majority of the 1986 Fleer cards in this sub are all very sharp from a corner/edges/surface standpoint, but are all a bit off with regards to centering. Overall, I am happy with my grades on them with the only one that could have graded higher being the Robertson, which had a chance at a 10 (but is within reason being in a 9 holder). I don't need any of these cards for my PSA 9 set, so I will have to decide what I want to do. Start a new set from self submissions or just sell off the cards to get more of what I need.

The Anthony Davis portion of the sub was sweet. I did very well on the higher end cards. The two base Prizm cards are crack outs from a previous sub, where I subbed 3 base Prizm cards and got 9's on all of them. I disagreed with that assessment and took a chance resubbing these two and feel vindicated now that they are in 10 holders. Goes to show what a thin line it can be and how subjective it can be as well. I will be posting an update to my Anthony Davis thread soon for any who follow along there. Thanks for looking.
