1980 Topps Football #393 Benny Barnes

I had a stack of early 80s football cards that I think came from BBCE group rips quite some time ago. I finally got around to sorting them - because I'm in Canada I can't give these things away so it's either send them away to get autographed or toss them. If I only have one card of a player I don't bother sending it to get signed. Came across the card in the title of this post, realized I had no other cards of him (not sure there are any) so tossed it in the recycling bin under my desk. For the next few days I piled other recycling on top of it. Come recycling day I took the bin down to our main recycling bin and emptied it and this card ended up on top. I realized then it looked well centered. I pulled it out, expecting to find a ding or surface scratch from the treatment I gave it that week. Still looked fine so put it aside for my next sub. Surprise surprise it earned a PSA 10. POP 2. No clue what it will sell for but I can't believe that card went through what it did and still got that grade. Prior to my sorting them, they had moved from box to box with no care at all.

I see 4SC has a PSA 9 which I believe is a pop 13 priced at $40 which seems high to me but I don't know much about the set.

Thank you. The other PSA 10 is part of the number one set on the registry but that set has been retired so not sure who has it right now.

I find the fluctuation on price over that period fascinating.

2008 $89
2009 $10
2013 $49
2015 $12

PSA9 & PSA10 has always seemed like complete chaos in terms of pricing. With exception to major cards/rookies it really relies on the desperation of how much an individual is willing to pay regardless of the value. Definitely a scary place to collect if you look at cards like stock. Way to volatile for me.
