I am confused by your title and then the context of the message?? Is is 82 or 83??
  • It's crazy. It has gone up tremembemdously the last couple auctions...

I'm assuming like in the title he means the 82.

That card is undervalued and should continue to rise, IMO. Classic 80's card!!

I notice a lot of early 80's stuff has gone up lately.

  • I don't see why, there is still so much unopened out there. In addition, 4SC graded about 1000 of them a few years ago. The pop flew up tremendously. I just don't buy it. It's almost as if there is some sort of cyclic "card of the month" thing going on here.
  • I don't really think there are that many unopened 82 topps traded sets out there. Sure the population will likely increase a bit over time, but I doubt it will double or anything drastic.

  • I thought the same thing until 4SC graded 1000 of them.

Maybe this is a sign the hobby is growing. With a growing base, those 1000 gem mint ripkens would be further spread out.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

The POP on this card is 202. Not out of control by any means. I thought the early traded sets were characterized as "short print" so I don't think the market will be flooded any time soon like some of the other 80's cards with potential unopened product looming everywhere.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

As I suspected, I haven't seen the price drop since 4SC subbed that large group. Trust me, I've been watching. For the longest time the price was hovering around $1200 until the past few months it has nearly doubled. I was actually a fan of the idea that it would decrease in value, mainly so I could actually afford to BUY my one. Looks like it's going to be my White Whale for a long time.

I am actually quite surprised that you don't own one in a 10. Sell some stuff that you can live without and go grab that sucker!

Aside from the money issue, I'm really happy with the PSA 9 that I do own, because it's the one that I bought raw back when I was 11 years old (in 1987) for $9! In 2007 I subbed it for the PSA 9. Was pretty stoked that I could keep a card like that for so long and have it stay in mint condition.

I think it is extremely impressive that the card withstood the major increase in population totals after the 4SC submission and managed to advance in price too.

This just shows you how much collectors respect Cal Ripken and I think is a telling sign as to why other cards have moved up. More collectors in the market.

While there are certainly more cards from the era than previous eras, I have to believe there were more childhood collectors than previous eras as well.
