Paypal refund status removed?

Long story short, seller refunded me after he realized the card case was damaged. I received an email on the 18th saying the refund will be pending until 8/25. Fast forward to today i get an email from paypal saying the refund didn't complete and to contact the seller.

Anyone experience this before? I emailed the seller but doubt he'll reply. It was a goods transaction /invoice not paid with a credit card.

  • He didn't have enough money in his bank account to cover the refund.
  • Super, how can i get my refund?
  • SNAD case via eBay.
  • It was paypal directly, no ebay so pretty much open a snad case through there?
  • Correct. SNAD through PayPal also works.

I would call Paypal and explain the situation to see what they can do.

  • Will do, thanks guys!
  • Don't waste your time calling Paypal. You will get nowhere.

File SNAD on Paypal and sit and wait.

I do not believe PayPal has a money back guarantee like eBay. If you win a case you get back only what they can recover. Here's a message I received from them about my recent case:

We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
    favor.

We were able to recover $3,000.00 USD and this amount has been credited to
you. Please allow five business days for this adjustment to be posted.

If you are due any additional funds, we will make our best effort to
recover the balance from the seller.

If the seller's account has insufficient funds to complete the refund owed
to you, please be assured that we will take appropriate action against the
seller's account, which may include limitation of the seller's account
    privileges

  • Moral of the story - always pay using a credit card. Wipe your balance before any purchase.

Plus you get the points on the credit card and sometimes 1-2% cash back. Combined with the protection from electronic transfers this is the basic protection you should allow yourself online.

I typically do pay via cc but the purchase was over my credit limit.
