He's only 3x VCP on the Henderson. VCP doesn't show a sale since 2012, so who knows where this one falls.
Nice cards, but appears we will be able to view them for awhile. All 20-40% over VCP. Trolling for that Wall Street Money? Can't blame him/her.

edit: his henderson price isn't too bad. a recent one just broke $30 i believe. >>
I thought I heard that. Why not in VCP? Private sale?

VCP data is but one piece of the puzzle, and far from complete and sacrosanct. Time and again we see a wide price range within a single grade, which is essentially the premium for an example with tremendous eye appeal, relative to others in that same grade.
This seller's PSA 3 Mantle, for example, is just the type of card that could shatter past pricing history, since one would be hard pressed to find another 3 or even many 4s that could hang with it. As to the Henderson, the card has indeed sold for 30k rather recently, in a sale that VCP did not capture. Private sales also provide great data on the market, and those sales can often serve as valuable predictors of where the next publicly offered piece may go, price-wise; of course when it comes to tracking private sales it is key that one have solid and accurate information. Lastly, with cards of this caliber, often the eBay listing in effect becomes the showcase, and deals offline are struck for less than the eBay ask-- especially when the seller has a fantastic reputation.
Anecdotally, I can say there have been great cards I have missed and regret not adding to my collection, either because I was not aware of sales beyond VCP at that time, or myopically and rigidly clung to the data there. One thing I have found very useful is to really scrutinize each of the available past sale scans on VCP, to really compare any card I am targeting to all the others in that grade which have sold. An average price will in general get one an average looking card; above will get above, etc.
Ah, I see begsu was posting along the same lines regarding VCP; apologies for the redundancy.
For better or worse, VCP is all we have that tracks sales. Short of spending loads of time searching e-bay archives and AH databases, VCP is the bible right now. Without VCP, not sure you could even invest/buy cards over $100.
I don't buy PSA 10's or cards shown in this thread, so I understand where VCP can have its' shortcoming for those cards. For what I do, VCP is very accurate and gives me a avg price from which I'm comfortable to base my bid on. I probably do more than most, and look at the auctions of some of the sales, review outliers, look at bidders when the price is 10-30% over avg, look at the image of the card won (card, not the holder..), etc.

sounds like you are your own bible vs. vcp, which is what i was trying to convey.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Saw where it was already gone. Heck - I did not even have time to do some math and see what I was going to sell to try and grab it and poof! At least that saved me the rubbing the wife's back and saying "honey, do the kids really need to go to college?"
Showed my wife the card and price and told her it already sold, and she calmly asked me if I got it. I told her no - what a great wife. Now I probably have to do kitchen updates since I did not waste it on another Mantle! That card was beautiful and has great eye apparel. Worth the extra $$ above VCP on eye appeal alone.
The other amazing thing is that several of the cards are in new flips. Are these reholdered or does this show that these cards are still out there to find (particularly the Orr and Clemente)?
Centered Mantes are tough to come by, in almost any year, not just the '52T. When they surface-- and the eye appeal is there in all other aspects as well-- they spike hard.
Will the seller be pass blocking for Ryan Fitzpatrick come September?

Sorry to deflate your hopes guys, but why would the seller want to join a team that will be done playing in december?!?!
I'll bet my entire unopened collection that he will be living down the street from Tom, Gisele and me because he wants a ring, not just to play 16 games and go on winter vacation.

doesn't catch everything, catches stuff w/ qualifiers, catches cards that are graded and signed and a host of other technical bugs.
of which help or hurt the overall average.
