Beckett Grading Prices?

I am talking to someone local about buying their graded rookie collection. He said he got all of his prices from beckett grading august 2015 edition. Is this just the annual beckett price guide, or do they do separate prices for graded cards? How would these prices compare to say SMR or VCP averages?

I don't know the answer to your question but if the "Beckett Value" is anything like it used to be in the past, it's going to be unrealistically high.

I can be of minimal help and confirm that they have an annual price guide just for graded cards. I've seen it at my local shop, at least the cover anyway. But they are all wrapped in plastic, and it never occurred to me to ask them to unwrap one so that I could look inside. So I have no idea if it includes pricing for all third-party graders or just Beckett or if it's anywhere close to reality (seems highly doubtful).

It is an annual guide. I bought one at the National, haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I will let you know once I get a chance.

I'm a BGS guy but I don't buy into the Beckett price guide crap. Quick story; I made an offer on an 87-88 fleer Jordan BGS 8 for around $60 (he had a bin at $120), the guy countered at 90 and told me that the Beckett price guide had a BGS 8 at listed at $100. I've never seen a BGS 8 sell for $100, not even close, and I own three BGS 8's!

It is basically a worthless publication. The only redeeming thing about it is that it is somewhat accurate for the current year products. I tend to use all of their guides as a checklist rather than a pricing guide. If I want to know what products have certain players I use it. It is also helpful for making new product buying decisions, they do a great job of the product breakdowns and also share a box break.
  • BVG graded cards sell for a fraction of PSA cards for many vintage cards nowadays.
Even modern BGS 10's like bird/magic rookie, jordan rookie, montana rookie, etc are not selling for much of a premium over PSA 10's of the same card like they used to.
Nothing against BGS and BVG, but that's what the market is showing.

I also wouldn't put much stock in beckett price guides. At this point they are just outdated

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Havent looked in a while, but when Beckett used to put out the "Graded Card Price Guide", it was actually a better price guide than the SMR and more accurate. Since then, Beckett in general has gotten unreliable in price and if you have someone trying to sell their cards at a percentage of Beckett price, be prepared to be shocked by how much they want. That being said, there are multiple 90's inserts that I collect quite a few sets of from all sports and some of them are SELLING for double Beckett in raw condition for the stars and less than 30% for the commons. Shows you how bad their price guide is, even within the same set

I think you mean BGS 9.5 - a BGS 10 still sells for a considerable premium over most PSA 10's

    No I mean BGS 10's.
For example, the last sale of PSA 10 bird magic rookie was about the same sale price as last sale of pop 1 bird magic BGS 10 rookie.

I have noticed on the premiere cards like the Bird/Magic, Montana RC, Jordan RC etc, the PSA 10's sell for more. However, on many non-premiere cards of stars, the BGS 10 far outpaces the PSA 10 - cards such as the 1993 Score Jeter is in the hundreds in BGS 10, yet in the PSA 10, is in the $60 range, same for some regular issue Jordans like Skybox Emotion BGS-$80/PSA $25. A lot of this is perceived scarcity and not due to the quality of the card inside. I am sure there are examples of each way being higher and on the premiere cards you mentioned, you are correct. Just for the record, I am not a fan of BGS or Beckett in general
