Gil Hodges book-A Hall of Fame Life by Mort Zachter

Just read a new book on him. Very good read. Entails his early personal life and MLB playing career. I was most interested in the events leading up to and including the 1969 "Miracle Mets" improbable WS victory over Balt. It also details the post 1969 years of his managerial career with the Mets. But of real interest is a final chapter on an arguement made for his inclusion in the HOF. Sad that he died just shy of his 48th birthday. At least he went out a big winner with that WS victory and will always be remembered for that. P.S. Grote, this book may be of interest to you.

Me for two! A great ballplayer (2nd most home runs in the 1950s - 310) and an even better person. Gil
was a gentleman, who showed kindness, compassion and empathy for all he interacted with.
