I was very surprised that there was not already a thread for Mantle, and so now there is.
A little back story for me, I've always wanted to begin this set, but I never thought I could afford it, but after saving up for my '51 Bowman Mantle (for the 1st Ballot HOFer registry), I decided I could do it over a long period of time. At this point, I'd like to average around PSA 5 grade, but I'm sure that will change as I go.
I look forward to see everyones spectacular collections.

Since the card above was more than a little bit out of my price range, I went with what I can currently afford. I liked the centering…and hey, it's a Mantle.

Bro, well, at least the card you were able to purchase does not have the irritating spot to the left side of Mickey's nose, nor the blazing white print spot beneath the bill of his cap, as appears on that particular PSA 6. To be sure, there are some very superlative qualities of the specimen you had to begrudingly walk away from, but you did well. One of Mickey's greatest cards, period. Congrats on the new Mick! Great image. That photo composition was striking to me even as a young boy. So much blue sky, and so different from the usual centered portrait.

Thought I'd share my 04/22/1960 type 1 ford/mantle dual auto, psa/dna and bgs/jsa 10. Outstanding to find a type 1 photo with perfect dual auto like this! my fave is the 1955 OAL All Star PSA/DNA 7 baseball. Weak stampings held the grade back, that's all, otherwise it would have graded higher. Unheard of to see team balls from the 1950's in this high quality. very small percentage!! Stunning 29 period dated auto!! Amazing to have Williams/Mantle period dated on same ball! As well as 3rd year Kaline! For fun here is a list of all 29 sigs on the ball, note the herb score rookie auto: (enjoy!)
