So about my 1984 topps wax box

I'm 12 packs in and the bottom half in each pack are not only always sheet a, they are the same 15 or so cards. I have anywhere from 8-12 blyleven, fergie and kirk Gibson to go along with some no names. Anyone ever come across this before with Topps?

If cards throughout all packs are from same sheet, it sounds like a cut card case used to make packs. I encountered that once with some 1980 wax packs that I had to return. But if cards from top half are from different sheets (from opposite letters in this case) you may have stumbled across a true factory packaging aberration.

It was from the previous group break to bbce. From a sealed case. All a sheet on the bottom and d e f on the top, all three of those in the same pack

I think mattingly is sheet a. Of course he hasn't made an appearance yet

More than likely a made up box from a cut card case. Cut card cases were not just packaged in one sheet. Many (actually most) from the mid 80s were mixed sheets. So it was common to see multiple sheets in one case.

It is correct that top half of pack should contain cards from opposite sheets as bottom half and vice versa. Obviously, it's not standard to see all cards from same sheet and repeat like that but the fact that other half of pack remains true in that cards are always from opposite sheets leads me to believe it's likely just a collation aberration. All the Topps cut card cases from this era (as opposed to vending) that I've seen were from same sheet, like the cards from the 1980 packs I mentioned earlier. I have a cut card case from 1982 Topps baseball (A sheet).

Also, if they are cut case packs, the seals will look off and the wrappers are shinier as they are typically fabricated from uncut rolls of wrappers in most cases. The cards in the 1980 packs that I encountered also had that distinctive vending "wave" to them. It is fairly obvious when the cards are from a source like that.

So the final tally from a 1984 wax box marked FASC. I opened 35 and kept 1:

    23 - Bert Blyleven
    23 - Toby Harrah
    24 - Chuck Rainey
    25 - Fergie Jenkins
    23 - Warren Cromartie
    23 - Kirk Gibson
    24 - Bryn Smith
26 - Ron Guidry (including two in a row and another two in the same pack)
    24 - Dave Collins
    24 - Brian Giles
    22 - Jim Acker

1 each - Buddy Bell, Tim Wallach, Glenn Wilson, Cliff Johnson

All sheet A. 9 total from sheet B and C. Some were interspersed in the A group above, some were on the top half. The rest were D-E-F, all found in the top half.

The good news is I think I can get a few 10s from the Gibby. In fact, nearly all of them have near-perfect centering but some had print defects.

That actually sounds pretty good~at least two of the guy in the group are HOFers, with a few other stars, too, LOL! I would bet the case was a factory collation aberration, not tampered with. Good luck with the grades.

I don't think it's tampered with, just wish I had the box with 24 Mattinglys.

    I'll just leave these here:

Just to add, all 11 of these cards are on sheet a, 4th row from bottom and one row away from mattingly. So close.

Hmmmm...if I bought a box of that from that break, I'd probably be up to my ankles in wax wrappers right now.

Sorry for your misfortune, but it'd be cool to see someone hit a handful+.

If I'm not mistaken that's aeriel's dress (the little mermaid) sitting on the table in that one picture!
My daughter has every single one of those toys. She loves them lol.

    Back to baseball;
A few years ago my brother bought an 85 topps wax box from BBCE and had very similar results to yours. He pulled no Clemens, no mcgwires, two ripkens, and three pucketts. Many of the cards he pulled we're constantly being repeated throughout the packs. I even remember opening a pack and seeing like 4 or 5 of the same card in a row (can't remember who it was) but we were pretty disappointed in that box to say the least. I think I even made a post here about it.

I had a similar experience with an '85 Leaf box. Pulled 6 Clemens and 5 Pucketts. Other than a few outliers, I basically got one of 4 different packs every time. Thankfully, one included a Clemens and one included a Puckett.
