Ever get an upgrade on SGC to PSA crossover?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if this has been asked before:

How often have any of you received an improved grade from PSA when attempting a crossover from SGC? I ask because I have a 1953 Topps Mantle SGC 3 which I think has a great shot at a PSA 4. While some of you may suggest cracking the card out, I've never done that before, and I do not wish to risk damaging the card.

Thanks!

  • You would have better luck cracking it out.

Post a picture and I will let you know.

    New or old SGC holder?

About 10 years ago I sent in a 1984 fleer Clemems sgc 7.5 and it crossed to a psa 9, lucky for sure, but it can happen

I've cracked out sgc cards and had them come back higher with Psa but there's no way they bump it for you in the holder. Just be carefully is not hard.

Dpeck video on cracking out the card is a good short video on the process of a crack out. No way it crosses over in the holder.

Practice on a couple of other SGC cards (low value) and then you will feel confident enough to crack it out. That is what I did. I was hoping for my card to cross from an SGC 96 to PSA 9 and it did.

SGC cases are very easy to crack open. Getting a bump while in the case is not going to happen but what are the chances of getting the same grade?
  • Thanks everyone. Looks like a crack out is the way to go. Now we'll see if I can get the courage to get the card out! If I decide to go that route, I'll post a pic of the card to get some opinions on if it even has a shot at success.
  • I'm trying to post some pics of the card, but it's getting refused because the picture size is over 50 kb. Any idea how to deal with this?
  • Upload it to Photobucket first, then link here. There are many previous threads describing how to do this if you use the Search.
