Will the Pope in town kill the Philly show?

I know its a little early, but everyday i'm hearing about traffic closures for the week of the papal visit. It's being said that over a million people will be entering the city!!!

I cant imagine anyone wanting to go to the Valley Forge Philly show during this historic week and gotta ask if Hunt's auction will punt. I'm commited to be there and will try...but will signers, other vendors, and most importantly, customers make the trip? very concerned....members thoughts?

  • I remember when the Pope came to Baltimore a number of years ago and held Mass at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. There were so many people in the city and things were a real mess for a few days leading up to his visit. I would think things could be the same or worse if they are expecting 1 million people. Not sure of the proximity of Valley Forge to Philly? Could be hit or miss. Could be a problem for customers/dealers/signers who are flying into Philly.

How much is he charging for an autograph. I don't think he will actually kill the show through because I am pretty sure one of the 10 commandments is "Thou shall not kill."

Nah, he's just going to come here and lecture us about how we need to pay a carbon tax to the elites to save the earth.

I wouldn't want to be trying to have a show or sell anything while that circus is going on. It would probably affect sales, and not in a good way.

If the show is the same weekend, I would be surprised if it were not rescheduled or cancelled.

The papal visit isn't a surprise as it was announced last year.Dealers expressed concerns as early as late 2014. Hunt sent an email to dealers in Febraury explaining why the show couldn't not be moved and that the hotel blocks at the casino would be the same rate but should be booked at the March show. Mike Kushner had a hotel block at the Embassy Siites as well.

The show isn't going to move and all involved knew last year of the conflict.

ugh. gonna be a mess. Show is 17 miles from center city. Id love it if still on because I live in KOP only 3 or 4 local miles away. But from far away will be hard to maneuver for so many. PA tpke, 202, or 476 the way to go but will be jammed i think. Schuykill expy (76) is closed from 476 into Philly that weekend. Bridges like the Ben Franklin are closed that weekend too.

No normal mass transit into or out of Philly either that weekend either. u needed to win a lottery for tix for express trains to/from 30th st. station that stop at only a handfull of hub stations in the burbs.

My plan for that weekend was that show or if cancelled (which i think they should), WALK to the KOP mall and a few bars that are all within 1-2 miles.

  • If the Pope's visit thinks it's going to interfere with us getting to the Philly show, I got 2 words for him....
