    Collecting 1970 Topps baseball
  • I am not a huge fan of NASCAR. I followed it back in the late 90's. But BB was one of the pioneers of the sport. RIP.

Really, Buddy's father, Elzie Wylie "Buck" Baker, was the pioneer of the family. Buddy struggled for a while to make a genuine name for himself. I will always remember, however, when he absolutely throttled the field at the 1980 Daytona 500. He drove a big 'ol Oldsmobile with an extremely well-made engine. He periodically led the race for many laps at a time. Though the race ended under caution, Buddy well-earned the victory, the most prestigious of his long career. He averaged 177.6 MPH, breaking the old record easily.

Eventually, we all remember him as a gravel-voiced race commentator who knew what he was speaking about. We loved him.

God rest his soul and comfort his family.

Buddy was indeed " The Gentle Giant". Everytime I met him or asked for an autograph, he was so nice and a super person. I will miss him.

    Hiya Logan

    That's really sad.

    I've been a Daytona fan since I'm a kid.
