This Weekends Card Show - Picture Heavy

Went to the my local card show again this month (Friday and Saturday). Its located in Ft Lauderdale Fl. At the show set up was our very own Mdube16 (Mark). I first met him almost two years ago as we met through the boards initially and then at a show and I can honestly say he is a good dude. He set up this weekend with his son in tow. Mark was very friendly, conversing with everyone, buying from other dealers and him and his son were ripping open packs and his son was totally loving it you can tell. I even witnessed a little boy come up to Mark and he had some cards in a zip lock bag. The boy said he spent all his money already but asked Mark if he wanted to trade. Mark said he would LOVE to trade and although Mark had no idea what the boy had, he told him that he was willing to trade any of his cards in the little boys zip lock bag for any of the cards that Mark had in his $10 box. The little boy must have spent a good 10 minutes going through the box because he couldn't decide on which one to pick. He was so happy you can tell.

This is Mark and I (Marc too). I am wearing the Marlins Jersey. Then the picture below is of Mark and his little helper (his son).

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the photos.

Cool pics and thanks for posting. Although the place isn't packed, it's good to see some foot traffic there.

Marc, you are always an exceptional photojournalist when it comes to recapping these shows. Great job!

Thanks for taking the trouble/time to record your pictures/report. I echo others here on it's nice to see so much nice condition material. No shortage of it as this show. I too was surprised to see a dealer using a price guide (Beckett?). Reading numerous comments one tends to think that they are extinct. Did the promoter charge admission?

I actually took the time to create a photo album yesterday with a scan of everything in my 2 showcases. There is a photo of the Banks there...it is mid/lower grade. PM me if interested as I don't want to Marc's feel good thread into a B/S/T

I did see the picture of Whitey checking Beckett. I was surprised how many times I was asked by people what the "book value" of a card was. Apparently its not as dead in the real non online world as we might have believed.

Marc, Thanks for taking photos and taking the time to post them. That's a lot of work in its own right.

You and Mark are doing some Miami representing in that photo. That's a cool photo. I agree with Bounce, thats a serious Griffey card in that 10 holder.

Thanks Again for all your help this weekend.

Love the San Bernardino Griffey. That show reminds me of the late 80's where one of those popped up every weekend. Thanks for taking the time to take and post pics.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

  • Yup, That Griffey is THEE Griffey card to own. Last one on VCP sold just north of $6,700. Insane. I wonder what price that could fetch the week of him entering the hall.

As far as was there admission? Not at all. Its at a hotel so its great to have people who are staying come by and check it out. Always great to see new faces/traffic going on at these shows. Even if they are there just browsing. Hopefully something will peak their interest were they will come back the following month.

And thanks to everyone who left a comment. It isn't really any trouble because I love seeing these type of pictures myself although no one really post them (except when the national strolls around) but I am glad someone can appreciate them. Its fun to give you an idea of what's going on outside of eBay as the market is alive and well considering all the online options that people have when considering purchasing from other avenues and although its great having conversations online, in person its so much more enjoyable discussing the hobby with a fellow collector face to face.

    Marc,

Great pictures and I enjoyed looking at them. We, too, have a few local shows here in Iowa, and I agree its great to see people face to face and have conversations with other collectors. My dad and I usually set up at our local shows, and I could really care less about making any sales, rather its just a fun day of conversing with others. I'll try to take pictures of our next show in September and post them. While EBAY is good for getting cards at good prices, there's nothing like going to a show with a bit of cash and bringing home something with you!
