My 2015 NSCC Wrap!

Well, the 2015 Nation Sports Card Convention (NSCC) has come and gone.
Much like every other year, we spend 51 weeks waiting for it, and then the
week FLYS by WAAAAAY too quickly.

For me, The NSCC is about seeing friends, old and new alike. This year was
no different. Seeing Great Friends, Friends and making NEW Friends is why
i keep going back year after year.

Collect anything long enough, and you get to be in a "comfortable" place with
your own collection. Add something new? Fantastic! Don't? No worries, as
you've already got a lot you can call your own. It's often difficult for us
collectors to take a step back and look at what we ALREADY own, always
focusing on "what's next?!?!"

Pictures will be posted at the bottom, so if you've gotten this far, Thank You! image

i met so many great people this year. you know who you are, so to avoid
stepping on any toes, you shall all remain nameless image

For this years show, it was the first one that i didnt have a #FOCUS going into.
That can be VERY dangerous, but for me it wasnt. My main goal (other then
going to Gibsons image was to cross some stuff over from BGS, have some pack
pulled cards slabbed and have two cards Reviewed, as i felt one was certainly
under-graded and one that had a fair shot at a half point point-bump.

As far as pickups, i always have my eye out for Low-Graded, High-eye appeal
Centered Mantles. I've been priced out of the market the last 18 months or so,
but when i find one, it makes it even sweeter. Luckily i was able to fine one!

ok, on to the pictures!

My 620-less Streak continues, unfortunately. That RB card is part of a Twitter #WalletCard thingie, check it out if youve not yet!

(The Mantles were in SGC 40's, the Wiggins/AD were Raw and the rest were in BGS 9.5 True Gems)

The Mantle Crossovers

As soon as i got this in the mail, i KNEW it was an undergraded PSA 7. Thankfully They agreed with me. Successful Bump!

And finally, my lone pickup at the show:

Again, Thank you to you all, as that is what makes the NSCC what it is, and why i keep going back! image

Eric, great recap and I would say you had a very successful National. I love the new Bowman Mantle you picked up. Very nice looking card especially for the grade. You have to be stoked with how your PSA run went. I suppose you could have hoped for a little higher on your Mantle crosses, but I'm sure getting all those Gem hoops cards made up for it. The bump on the Magic Bird is sweet too. Good eye picking up that 7, definitely worthy of being in the 8 holder. You know I love my hoops, you've got the 2000's pretty well covered with your four RC's there. Just missing a Durant and a Curryimage

Out of curiosity, what were the subgrades on the 9.5's you crossed for the Lebron and the Kobe RC's (love the Kobe gem btw, it is definitely on my list of cards to get this year). Also, did you review the Magic Bird or crack and submit?

Eric, it was great seeing you again (albeit briefly!) after we met at the last Chitown national two years ago--even if all I said to you this year was "Hi, i met you two years ago; I was the guy with the 58 mantle AS psa 3 that you scrutinized for like 10 minutes wondering why in their right minds psa gave it only a 3 when it looks like an 8. Actually the conversation wasn't even that long but hopefully next year in AC we can spend a little more time talking shop!!

Great pickups and crossovers (especially the bird Erving magic bump; thats awesome!!); my 58 mantle AS would fit in perfectly with the 62 and 63!!

Great write-up. Those of us not lucky enough to make it to the national experience it vicariously through write-ups
Like yours. Love the centering on that 53 mantle also.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • Great pick ups and it was a pleasure meeting you at the show!
  • Thanks Fellas!

Steve, the Lebron was all 9.5 subs and the Kobe was 3 9.5s and a 10

Great job as always my friend. Nice bump on your Magic/Bird rookie and really like the 53 Mantle. You need to post all your Mantles when you get a chance. Looking forward to catching up with you next year in AC.

How did I not post to this thread yet? Must be too many National threads which is a good thing. image

Eric, it is always great seeing you wherever the National is and even when we aren't at the National. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and look forward to seeing you soon. For someone without a focus, you did GREAT!!! Congrats on all your pickups and bumps.

    Thanx Eric.

I believe I saw your +1 bump on the Scoring Leader card - a beauty.

Those Mantles are sweet. My equivalent years ago was the OCs that no one wanted - they still won't go for a lot but are nice.

I don't think I could go to the National sans a focus - if someone took credit cards? I'd be in big trouble with Mary!

Again, a pleasure meeting you and see you in AC.
