2015 National pickups aka Operation Crackout

Operation Crackout started normal went bat **** crazy and then got back to abnormal. If that doesn't make sense then I accomplished my goal. On another note as stated in other threads the National is not about finding cards for cheap prices as most dealers were 20-30% OVER VCP but getting to spend time with other nerds that chase pictures of grown men. I actually saw one man(Mr Gray shirt) spend $3.20 for a 55 Clemente well I think it was 320 something. The same guy was walking around with an empty suitcase knocking people down and grabbing their cards(Got to take a picture with him but he had a white shirt on). Also spoke to a guy that is chasing a Purple Cow but had the best line of the National(its all relative) I was hoping he meant he was going to adopt me since he had just bought a PSA 9 card from 1939. Also to the guy with the NY hat that keeps saying just collect and you will go far..thanks for the infinity discussion. Furthermore met the Beard of Knowledge that couldn't get away from the women. One woman even offered to give up her first born if he would spend the night with her(I think she had his oscar confused with another we saw outside the theater). Finally this National offered many hurdles but in the end it all worked out including getting to see a picture that just STRIKES me as one I will never forget. Thanks guys for after reading this hopefully you understand. Especially thanks to Dustin, Eric, Logan, Mike, Mr Gray Shirt, and numerous others for an eventful week.

You're just lucky that Random Guy didn't tail you over to Gibson's or the bill would have been much larger and you might have gotten stuck with it... at least according to the Twittersphere. image

Actually guys the Hugger ordered her meat and scallops raw but this was just a presentation of how your cow looked before being scorched.

The highlight of my show was getting to take this little guy to the Topps meet and greet. He won this card along with finding a scavenger hunt prize from UD. A friend from Alabama drove up to find some hockey card deals and attend his first National. He was blown away at our comradery amongst board members.

    Nice writeup Kirk.

Was a pleasure meeting you and I hope to make the dinner at the next National - that's if you can drag me away from the slots. (I'm waiting for the joke on "sluts")

    Thanx again.

Kirk--great seeing you as always. I didn't realize the wienermobile was in town--I hope you got a chance to drive that beauty.

I agree with PSA CardSlugger champ--that Ty Cobb is really off the charts. Thanks for showing it to me in person.

Nice writeup Kirk. Always a pleasure talking to you each year. I actually understood most of your OP. I don't know if that is good or bad, LOL.

Looking forward to next year already, but lets try not to monopolize all the graders time again. image

  • Awesome recap! I was privileged to be a part of Operation Crackout every step of the way. The low point was the hugger and Gibsons of course.
