So incredibly disappointed

I love the honest and kind people on this board...I really do. I love reading about all the greatness with your collections and what's next and what's important...even when some of you get personal and add photos of family etc., I think it's great.
On the other hand, I've encountered some folks that don't respect or appreciate the hobby and the good people...I find it disgusting.
Case in point...
Yesterday I decided to auction some of my beautiful PSA autographed HOF pictures on EBAY, included in that I have an 11x14 Mantle, Dimaggio, Williams picture. That one is GAI and not PSA but I still listed it not knowing any wrong doings at all. It started to get bid up and I got a message from someone that said it was fraud...I immediately took it down and checked it out, and clearly I need to submit it to PSA before I sell it based on my findings and if it's fraud, I plan to use it at the next bonfire.
I'm just so incredibly disappointed because I probably spent $1,000 on it 5 years ago and in all likelihood it's now worth $0. It's possible that someone dupped me back then, but what really gets me is the same guy that told me it was fraud wanted to buy it from me and what's my price...what is with people? Just venting, thanks for listening.

Just a thought I had when reading his comment.
Sorry to hear if indeed you did buy a bogus piece. It sucks - I certainly have been there as well - and unfortunately it's a crappy part of a great hobby that most of us have dealt with something like this to some extent.
I feel for you in your plight as I too have bought fake autographs that cost me a lot of money. I would be curious to see the picture that is in question. Since I discovered a baseball that I have is fake I have tried to educate myself in picking fake signatures on several of the more popular ones. I can tell you that the three autos you have are very commonly grouped together and very commonly forged. There is a group of guys on a couple other boards that look for those type fakes and report them to EBay. I can't say for sure but I think one of them buys some of the fakes to keep as examples. PM me and I can give you some more details.

Looking for 81-84 Topps Stickers in PSA 9 or better, 81 Topps Scratch offs, 83 Topps Fold outs in PSA 8 or better, 83 Fleer Stamps and 81/86 Fleer Star Stickers in PSA 9 or better.

You bring up a good point and that could be the case but I will say that GAI has a cloud over it's COA as when it was sold, the people that bought it started using bad autographs so some may be good and some may be bad. If you google GAI forgeries, you will find out more.

I cannot begin to say how sorry I am for you about what happened when you tried to auction your flat-out gorgeous autographed photo. There are some loud-mouthed limes in the hobby that almost always never miss a chance to try to throw a bucket of cold water on somewhat else's parade. Since you've decided to take the precautionary route to have PSA/DNA look at your piece, I will truly pray that it comes back "good as gold". When it does, I genuinely hope you get quadruple the price you would have received before. Then you'll be able to hurricane his cold water, and his bucket for that matter, right back at the loud-mouthed lime's face with his now-gnarled chin on the floor. The guy is cruising for a bruising. ... an in your face disgrace...
Hope it happens and you have the happy ending.
Hang in there, bro. Best regards. ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)
sorry....GAI has been issuing certs on that particular shot for years and i don't think I have ever seen a good one.
I hope I'm wrong for your sake.

I think you're probably right...how I was willing to be too trustworthy back then, I wouldn't be so much today. I plan to put it in the closet until the next PSA/DNA show.
I suppose I should clarify something I wrote when I responded. To question the authenticity of an autographed piece is not wrong, or unkind. I would say it boils down to how a person expresses their opinion. I've hurt my dear wife in the past by how I said something, rather than what I said. When it comes to our cherished collectibles, and things associated with them, we are often just as a woman---very sensitive. While a voice or inflection is not heard on these boards per se, the tone of the words brings out said inflection and connotation loud and clear. Again, I wish you a happy ending with PSA / DNA. ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)

I understood your point very well Brian, and I appreciate your comments very much. My point had more to do with me taking it down so I could look into its legitimacy based on his comments...what came next was when he wanted to buy it from me, when I wanted to trash it if not authentic is what bothered me. It had more to do with integrity than anything else...I thought he would have applauded me by wanting to get rid of its existence after I varified if it was bad...not wanting to buy it from me. It's all good and I'm convinced it's not authentic, lesson from 5 years ago, realized yesterday.
