Would this cross to a PSA 7?

At the risk of driving up the price of this 71 Topps Rich Allen card, I'm curious if people think it would cross. It's one I need for my set and I know a PSA 7 goes for more. I don't have much experience with SGC cards and I notice there is space between the top of the card and the edge of the holder.

  • 7 - for sure!

About the space from top to bottom, ever notice that some cards in PSA's holders slide around more than others? Its actually quite common. I would probably look at some more 71's in the SGC holders and see if you can find others (just to feel safer before making that purchase).

    Just my two cents.

Thanks, Marc. Good advice on comparing with others in SGC holder. It does look like most '71s fit more snugly than this card. I did see some that had the gap. The '71's that I own do seem to be somewhat inconsistent is size (both in height and width) as Topps quality control was not what it is now. The only gamble would be if I bought this card, cracked it and it came back Min Size Req.

I would not say it's a slam dunk. PSA is much more strict with centering than advertised in my opinion, and for the 1971 set, a 7 is not the easy grade to obtain that it is for other issues.

Another viewing does show a pretty big L-R centering issue.

You can find older flip examples on eBay of 8s with this kind of centering, but it doesn't ever seem to happen anymore.
