Ebay and Cuba

Just tried to list a Cuban coin on Ebay.ca in CAN $.
However, listing was blocked and a threatening note popped up that I can be barred from Feebay if I try it again.
reason being the US embargo against Cuba.
Just wondering what planet Feebay is on?
there are some Cuban articles and coins listed...
do any of you have any similare experiences.
thanks

Ebay has it's own policy on Cuban coins.

Their prohibition on Cuba listings has been around for over a year.

I sell cuban coins here and there on ebay. Just don't write the word Cuba. I normally say "Caribbean silver" or something of that nature . Never mention the word cuba in an invoice through paypal either or your account will probably get locked.

Lifting of the embargo is inevitable but I'd be surprised if it happened soon.

Please list your Cuban offerings on the BST YQQ.

I went round and round with ebay up to a supervisor level on this. I have an NGC MS-65 ABC Peso I want to list. The coin was struck by the US! While the supervisor agreed I should be able to list it they basically told me they didn't want to hassle with coins from Cuba that are not under the embargo.

To me it is not worth the risk. I do not attempt to sell Cuban coins. In addition I do not have very warm feelings towards the communist government of Cuba, they are guilty of gross human rights abuses. I know that selling or not selling old Cuban coins does not make any difference, but until the Castro brothers are gone I will not sell Cuban stuff. I do not sell Nazi stuff for the same reasons.

I suppose I operate under a bit of a double standard, because I do sell Soviet stuff and under Stalin they were at least as bad as the Nazis and maybe worse.

It's been well longer than that... I'd have to guess 3-4 years at this point.

FYI, assuming this violates eBay or PayPal's rules, if they catch wind of it, they may suspend your account indefinitely. I had the issue with a coin (I don't remember if it was Cuba or a different, similarly embargoed country) where someone sent a PayPal payment (not even through eBay) mentioning the country in the payment. My PayPal account was locked until I faxed over a signed letter saying I'd never do it again.

Ebay banned the sale of Cuban coins on April 9, 2013.

There were a number of articles (and complaints) in the numismatic press then.

I guess that I am fortunate as I bought a few Cuban coins on Ebay in 2010.
I wanted to complete a Jose Marti 1953 commemorative coin set.

I wouldn't risk selling Cuban coins on Ebay. Ebay has shown that they will use a heavy hand to do what they feel is right, even if it is for the wrong reasons, against common sense or otherwise.

I received an email from EBay today with the title: "Your selling privileges have been temporarily restricted: Currency"

They removed one of my Canadian coins listings listed on the ebay.ca domain, because I had a numeric grade in the title. It was in an SEGS holder. Last I checked the numeric grade in title only being able to be used with recognized TPG coins was only on the .com domain. It appears they made a stealth change lately to the ebay.ca domain to also include those rules. I can't find any record of the .ca change.

So I am currently serving a one day suspension of being able to list items on Ebay.

This, coupled with a recent "defect" where I shipped an item to a buyer's paypal confirmed address (low value, so no tracking number, as this costs $8-14 to send tracked within Canada). It returned to me with an "address incomplete" sticker on it. I let the buyer know. They tell me to ship to a similar specific address. I tell them not until they update their address in paypal and send me funds to cover shipping it the second time. He ignores me for a week, then opens a case, appeals to Ebay and they side in his favor.

I dispute the claim, Ebay says no, because there is no tracking number. They said the photo of my package showing the address as it appears on the paypal invoice, with the Canadapost "address incomplete - return to sender" sticker and cancelled stamps is not evidence enough to prove I ever shipped the coin. My 100% 2000+ seller feedback vs the buyer's feedback score of 3 is apparently also meaningless.

Fuuuuuhhh... Sorry to hijack, but it seemed a good thread to continue the "what planet Feebay is on" thought... Because I sure don't know.

Did a ebay search on prohibited coins and did not find any reference to CUBA anymore.

Have things changed since O'Mighty did the end around with congress on cuba?

Has anyone tried listing a Cuban coin for sale on Ebay recently?

Hey Jeremy, I underwent a similar shameful process, even though the deal wasn't even on eBay, but the PayPal title mentioned the country. At this point, nice Cuban coins or notes are a more attractive buying rather than selling option. Considering of course that a full removal of the embargo will seriously increase the current demand.
