anyone going to induction weekend at Cooperstown?

Wondering if anyone was planning on attending the inductions this weekend. It is a banner class and lots of
Good autograph guests as well. My father and I go nearly every year I highly recommend it if you have never been

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • I have been there three times including last years epic induction and I agree, totally worth the experience. This year, I am changing it up and going to Canton

I'll be at the HOF only Fri of induction weekend due to a trip to Niagara Falls.

I'm really looking forward to the trip - I've never been before.

One disappointment - I shared a common interest with Tim Wiles, the director of research; Take me out to the Ball Game - but unfortunately he is no longer with them. I wanted to share some research with him.

I hope to meet up with some of you at the National this year - I will make it to the BBCEx booth - with CPA Mike e.g.

As an Atlanta Braves fan and Frank Thomas collector, I had to go last year. It was my first HOF trip. The weekend was preceded by my 5th anniversary and my birthday fell on that Saturday; so, we spent the anniversary and a couple of days in NYC, trained up to Albany, got a rental, and headed to Cooperstown. Finished in Rochester to see some old friends and flew home to Houston from there. Great memories. Plus we came home with baby number 2...she'll be 3 months on Saturday.

I'd love to see Smoltzy get in, heck, the whole pitching trio, but said baby makes travel more difficult right now.

I believe that sandy koufax--the most overrated player in the history of all professional sports (excluding tiddlywinks)--will be there.

Does anyone know when they stopped having the free signings?

I used to go in the mid/late 1980's and you would got 1 item signed for free from each player as well as a free signed HOF plaque. They had a tent set up and many of the HOF'ers would show up to sign. Was just wondering around what year they ended that.

They ended that right around 1992 or so, if I had to guess.

I will be there on Friday!!! Can't wait! I attended every HOF Induction Weekend from 1987 to 1998, 2007, 2008, and 2014. So this makes 16 for me! I plan on being at MAB for Frank Thomas on an OMLB for my 500 HR collection, and Orlando Cepeda, Al Kaline, and Gaylord Perry on my HOF bat.

Also plan on stopping in every single shop on Main Street, sitting at DoubleDay Field for awhile, a beer at Ommegang, a hot dog at the VFW, and a leisurely stroll by the lake. Going to be a great day.

Thanks for the info. was always curious about that. I asked my dad and he said we went from 82-89. I was pretty young and didnt remember that we actually started in 82. There were some real big names that used to sign for free including Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial. What a great time to enter the auto collecting hobby

I was actually thinking about it more, and I am pretty sure that it was 1992. I was standing in line for tickets with my Dad, but got shut out. While in line, I overheard someone say they just got Tom Seaver's (and I specifically remember it being his Induction Year) signature at the golf course, and then I headed down that way. Wound up getting shut out at the golf course, but snagged Ted Williams at the tennis courts! The next year they ended the signings.

I agree, you did enter the hobby at a great time. I just narrowly missed, as I started in 1989/90 or so. Players were starting to charge, but not very much, some HOFers still would sign for free TTM, and there were not inscription fees, premium item fees, bats, jerseys, etc. I got a lot of HOFers on a bat with no upcharge.

A follow up on my trip to Cooperstown. Great trip. Met lots of hofers.
Got a few autos. Among them Eddie Murray, Reggie Jackson, Frank Thomas
Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux. All the players were great and took the
Time to chat with dad and I. Big Frank was especially nice. not sure how to post pics
    But a great weekend
