What is the deal with the white dot on the 1972 Julius Erving RC

I have been thinking of picking up a 1972 Julius Erving RC (the plan is a nice 8 or 9). In looking at some cards it seems there are a number of cards that show up with a white circle (presumable a print defect) to the right of his left elbow. It seems as though PSA gives this spot a pass as I have seen them show up on 8's without a qualifier. Does anyone know what percentage of his rookie cards have this defect? Is this akin to the black line that shows up on the Bird Magic Erving card? Do some people find this defect to be a deal breaker for a high end version of this card? Thanks for any insight.

Yeah Steve. That spot is very similar to the black line on the Bird/Magic RC. It appears on well over half of them, but does not keep it from a high grade. I've seen these in straight 9 holders. I'm sure it would not be accepted on a 10, but since there aren't any, who knows. Personally, I hate it and believe it should not appear on any card higher than an 8 without a qualifier.
