Card Show Spoils--Mantle (Grades Posted)

Well you guys finally did it to me. Bought my first two solo, regular issue Mantles. Sorry for the cell phone picks, can't get to the scanner right now.

These will both be off to PSA soon. On the 1967, looks like about a 4, 4.5, without the stain on the bottom back. Do you think that stain is consistent with a 4 or is that going to bring me down further?

And on the 1957, will PSA treat the glue or tape or whatever it is on the top back the same as BVG did, so that I'm looking at a 2-2.5? Should I cross-over or crack it out on the theory that 2 is the worst I'll do anyway?

Congrats. on the pickups. I would submit both with no qualifiers and would certainly crack the 57 out and submit. As far as the 67 goes you would be lucky with a 4 because of the stain. Good luck.

I would crack and submit as I don't think you have much to lose from a 2.5. No matter what they grade, the front of those cards are sharp so you did well on your first two Mantles. Congrats!

If you think the card is a 4-4.5 without the stain, I would think they would give it a 2.5-3 if you requested no qualifiers.

Even with the tape stain, I can't see that card coming back any lower than a 2.

Both of those cards present VERY WELL for the grades. Nice pick ups.
    STAY HEALTHY!

You did an awesome job of picking up some Micks with great eye appeal! The number almost doesn't matter because they'll look beautiful slabbed. Congrats!

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with these no matter what number ends up on the sticker. Will post scans in the thread I started for my 300 great card registry when the grades come in.

    Grades are in.

    24513855 GOOD 2 1957 Topps 95 Mickey Mantle
    24513856 VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT 4 1967 Topps 150 Mickey Mantle

As expected. Either I was too hard in my estimation on the rest of the '67 or the stain didn't set it back. On the '57, if there's a nicer 2 out there I'd like to see it.

Without a doubt you have the nicest 57 Mantle PSA 2 that I have seen. Great job with both and that is a great looking 67 PSA 4 as well. Congrats.

Congrats! The cards will look far better in the PSA slabs than BVD'S. Vintage just looks wrong in those slabs.

It's a bona fide, certified, chicken fried, high-end low-end-card. I've even got the sticker residue to prove it. Nothing but the best of the worst in this collection, baby!
