CAUTION- 52 Mantle on eBay

Hey all. Just wanted to give you a heads up about a 52 Mantle on eBay. As you may remember, I had a psa 4 52 Mantle stolen from me at the national 2 years ago. Well, after 2 years, it has resurfaced on eBay- sort of. I contacted the authorities and eBay, and it was originally pulled down a few days ago as "stolen merchandise". He re-listed the card today.

52 Mantle psa 4

But it gets worse. I don't think he really even has the card. If you look at the front scan, it's in the original old holder as I had it. However, when you look at the back scan, you can see that this is a NEW holder, as it is absent of the rivet fasteners. Additionally, the back of the card listed is not the same back as my original card. I'm assuming he lifted the images and wasn't smart enough to match up the holders.

SO, he is either selling a card he doesn't have, or he's selling a stolen card. In either case, I would avoid!!

Jeff, I contacted him to send me a scan of the front of the card with his username and today's date. No response so far. Shocking.

The front image was a scan I made when I owned the card (which I then sold to Jeff before it was stolen at National)--likely stolen off my photobucket account. The back is a different card in the more recent hologramed holder. I would imagine somebody looking to spend this kind of scratch on a card would notice these things, but calling it out here just in case.

99.9% confident this seller doesn't own the card.

Another guy that I didn't previously know contacted me when he realized it was a scan of my stolen card. He already sent the guy $10,000 for an off ebay deal and the seller didn't pull the card down

When the seller so quickly accepted 10K on a card worth probably twice that, how does that not trigger red flags? Rhetorical question.

Why do these people think they can get away with this? When you start ripping people off for $10k a pop, it will draw attention. I got caught by this type of scammer several years ago. He listed a bunch of $1k+ items and nabbed about $80k from a number of collectors, including about $1k from me and never shipped the items out. The postal inspector went after him, he got arrested, had to pay restitution and spend some time in the clink followed by house arrest. They may think it's a game but they WILL get caught.

Agreed. It's darwinism at it's best. Those who are unable to see the consequences of their actions are the ones who are made to suffer by them. Simple stuff.

If anything it helps keep the community fit in dealing with this kind of nonsense.

Going to jail for stuff like this is pretty much the most embarrassing thing I could think of related to this hobby. How do you recover from that?

Is this the man who wrrreeeeeecked the buffet at the Harrow Club? (what movie reference?)

I think that he took the auction down and listed it again. I contacted him asking him to post new scans since I want to make sure he has the card and it appears that the front and back of the card are two different PSA holders. He responded by asking - "How can a scan be of two different cards?"

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

The new listing is from Bradenton, Florida.

I believe I saw the initial listing was from the country of Georgia. I thought it said international. If not then it is the state of Georgia. Either way if it is the same seller the item location has changed.

The original listed said City(?), Delaware- GA. I almost asked the question here at the time how could an item be in 2 different places

This is a case of hacked ebay account.

I contacted the seller this morning after I noticed this new listing under my followed searches. He responded shortly after with his question to my question. I asked him once again to provide another scan of the card using his phone or a scanner and predictably there was silence.

I just received a notice from eBay stating that my username was involved in communicating with an account recently found to have been accessed by an unauthorized third party, who may have used the account in an attempt to defraud other members.

Hopefully this unscrupulous individual is caught and the card is returned to Cardcountry in short order.

    WARNING!!!!
I have a bro at Net54 that in fact PM'ed this guy and was ready to make transaction on this 52 Mantle. My guy Pm'ed me and asked for additional advice. Both of us agree there was too many red flags. I questioned the zoom in feature and wanted to see better pics and clarity. And the background was not too great. They guy was some facebook sharing and not sold a single baseball card, but had a 6k comic book.
