Compare the two Killebrew rookies?

The first one is in tonight's PWCC auction as a Certified High Ender:

The second is the one I just purchased in SportsCardLink's auction:

I think the first is centered better but has a little more tilt than the second. Do you see any other differences?

The top left corner on yours looks like it has a bit more wear. Are those marks on the top left of your card on the card or from the scanner?

Also looks like there are some white marks on his left cheek and his lip. This could also be from the scanner.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Top one is better centered left-to-right. Definitely a high ender.

Top one looks much better to me.

Thanks for the responses, I don't have mine in hand yet so I don't know how much is on the holder. It certainly looks like the top left corner has a little more wear than the others. Price wise there was a $280 difference, which really surprised me.

Based on the scans, I agree with PWCC that the top card is high end. I actually bid on that card tonight and only got beat by about $150image That said, I think the one you bought is above average compared to other 7's I have seen. If I had to choose between the top card for $681.01 and yours for $400 then I would buy yours too and use the $280 to buy another card on my want list. Congratulations on the purchase, I think you did well. If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick up your copy?

  • Although both nice cards, top left is the one I would go with if I had to pick out of the two. The top has slightly better centering but overall appeal because of the corners when comparing both. Doesn't take away from yours but as someone said, the top is considered a high end 7 compared to an average 7 below.

Again, both are nice cards (and great cards to own) but when comparing both, yeah - top one all the way, everyday.

Congrats on making a great purchase with a Killebrew rookie.

Just judging by the scans, I'd take the top card.

I picked up mine on SportsCardLink's auction that ended a couple of days ago.
  • Tops one would like fine in an 8 holder, maybe even 8.5. Second one belongs in a 6 or 6.5 holder.

On the 7 there's a lot of print smudging in the yellow areas of the card, blue logo, and some surface wear on face. Still a nice card for a 7 but no higher.
  • I also don't think it's a coincidence that the "high end" top card has an older PSA flip. On average, I think it's hard to dispute that PSA was more strict in its grading back in the early 2000s.

    This is not true
In fact, i believe the opposite to be true

For every instance like the one above, I can find 5 examples of weakly graded PSA cards with early flips when compared to recently graded examples.
