1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle PSA Auth

Does anyone know why this card is being sold for over $5000, when a PSA 1 and/2 go for much less?
I'm in the market for a centered, low grade Mantle to complete my Post HOF Rookies set and was just a little curious if the card had a back story.

1951 Mantle PSA Auth

Thank you,

I am in the same boat as you being in the market for this card. I saw this card and agree the centering is excellent. The eye appeal is pretty good, although the registration is a bit of a turn off to me. To answer your question, I don't think it is unusual at all often times for vintage cards like this to sell higher for an authentic card than for low grades at 1 and 2. Often times the eye appeal of the Authentic card is much higher than that of 1's and 2's which explains why Auth cards can often have higher VCP's than 1's and 2's. This particular card is priced awfully high and I would not be a buyer at this price no matter the back story.

I could t figure out a way to say it correctly.
I'm contiplating asking if they would reduce their sale price, but I think my offer might be offensive.

Completed sales say it sold for $7,500?

My guess is the buyer didn't pay at $7,500.
Then it must have been sold off eBay for $6k.

It doesn't look like it actually sold the first time even though it shows as sold. Some of these items keep doing this in the history.

Usually on offer history it will show all including the buyer if sold for full price.

No, I offered him $6,600 then about an hour later the seller emailed me saying it sold for full asking price.

it's mine. paid $6k for it on 6/11/15.

edit: check "june's pick ups" thread

he did start at $7500, then bumped it down to $6500 on net54board...so might be kinda right when he said he sold for full price. -$500, though.

Weird he turned down my $6,600 to accept your $6,000. In another thread I noticed you said it was $6,200. I'll email the seller and ask him why he lied and took less money.

Okay I see. Either way it's a nice card even at $7,500.

If anyone can look at that card and see good eye appeal then the whole centering obsession on these boards has truly jumped the shark. I got dizzy looking at the scan.

well it was $6000, but he wanted FnF which will never do. however I certainly wasn't gonna lose a 52 mantle that was centered like this over two-hundred bucks!!!

I originally saw it on ebay and never knew it was on the net54 board until after the deal was struck:

    sent $6200 via reg paypal
he sent card. arrived next day as discussed.
posted it on the pick ups and 54 board. matty told me he saw it in the BST forum.
I sent $6000K via fnf (since I had the card, completely covered on original payment and realized he was a respected net54 board member)
    he refunded original $6200.

rest is history. ...and all is right w/ the world.

edit: but to be technically correct, my total buy price was $6033, as we used my fedex acct to insure and overnight. respectfully apologize for stating $6000 flat. my bad.

as for him "lying", i will assume you were just a lil late and to say it sold at original price was probably just an easy brush off....

but to be honest, i think it was a steal at $7500 to begin with and hit the "buy it now" on ebay just to get it off the market until the deal was secured and the card was procured.

hate to say it, but i woulda went thru with it via ebay had the deal began to crack, regardless.

i mean, look at that thing!!!!! image

it's altered, completely advertised as so, but they just don't come around that centered.
