A question about the Binion hoard coins.

Does anyone have graded pop numbers for the Hoard?? I have an opportunity to buy a fabulous 1888 graded MS65* with lovely true Rainbow Crescent tone across the lower left obverse and was curious about pricing. The seller was asking about $650 and part of the "pitch" had to do with the * designation. I was really struck with the coin and suppose I could get it next month when I see the seller but I thought I'd seek some "counseling" from those who know better than me about these things.

1888 MS65* Binion
MS65* Philly coins
peacockcoins
as common as sin here in Vegas. (pun intended).
bob
overall the quality and cleanness of the coin is good for the grade, but I will admit being distracted by the tone.
Minimal rainbow crescent
In my mind, Binion adds nothing to the value. How does it compare to this one that sold 3 years ago for $425? I don't think it would fetch that right now. I can promise you I would not pay that much and I collect these puppies!
<< <i>Man, I'm glad I don't collect Morgans any more. That coin is an MS63, tops, just based on all the field hits. Could have bought it for $40 back in the late 1990s when I collected Morgans. That amount includes a 100% premium above retail ($20) for the pretty toning. >>
Every Binion I have seen is overgraded, sometimes 2 grades by PCGS standards right now.
you mis-read my reply. I said "the color on the face is banded" and when it reaches the field the field is "mostly medium electric blue. the tone on the obverse covers less than half of the coin and it is nowhere near as dark as any of the linked/pictured coins.
it isn't worth arguing or debating for me, I was just hoping to get an understanding about what the numbers are and how NGC graded them as a group.
Back then the price you mentioned sounds fairly close. I don't really know the market on them these days. I didn't see too many Binions with these very nice crescents. I liked mine and it was one of those coins you can't quite pull the trigger on at a show, get home and call the dealer at the show and say "I'll take it." Then pay shipping too!
Good luck.

Super 1888 Dollar - it would be a gotta have if I was bidding on that.
That Goldberg coin has some similarities to this Heritage 1886 MS65* Binion coin at $1,057. Both make the A level imo showing all the important color shades and a nice rainbow. The coin you are considering might be worthy.
If you end up posting some images, the guessing won't stop, but might become a little more educated.
<< <i>I found this coin in a Goldberg link. it looks similar but what I remember is more color in the bands, more area of brilliance on the obverse and brighter blue in the field.
That might be the one I owned. Looked exactly like that.
