Who says you can't find hidden gems on ebay - 1975 Topps edition, updated with 1973 Topps - grades i

Recently I came across a listing for a lot of 1975 Topps cards that didn't have much detail and photos weren't great. Just "part of a childhood collection and they weren't handled very much". The cards looked ok from the edges and it was cheap enough that I decided to take a chance with the minimum bid and I won it.

The cards arrived yesterday in a USPS flat rate box, inside the original cigar box he kept the cards in. They were packed securely so they didn't shift around during shipment. The first thing that stood out when I started looking through the cards, was that this was a lot more than a 200 card lot and... wait a minute... these are in number order. This is nearly a complete set!

I instantly jumped to the 220s to see if Yount and Brett were there. They were. I then went through card by card and started sorting out the stars and the ones worth grading. I ended up pulling almost 50 cards including the Yount. Here are some scans of some of the better/tougher cards. This will go down and probably my best "find" in eBay to date. Who says you can't find hidden gems anymore?

The next one wasn't going to come as cheap after the pub but at least you snagged it.

Yep. I figured it would get some more attention, but felt it would be good for the seller since I got such a steal on the first lot. Hopefully these are just as sharp as the 75s. Will post scans when I get them. I ended up subbing just under 40 cards from the 75s for grading.

Got the latest lot in the mail on Friday and just got around to going through them. Not as exciting as the 75s, but still some nice cards. The lot was closer to 500 cards, with ~400 being 1973s. There were also a few 75s and about 30 72s in the mix. The 72s were pretty beat up, with the best card being an well centered Aaron that would likely grade out around a 5-6. The 75s were much nicer, but didn't offer much except an OC Gibson and Carew.

The 73s were more interesting. The cards were all grouped by team instead of numerical order like the 75 lot. It's always fun to see how a childhood collection is organized through the years. I'm guessing 72 was the first year collecting since the card were beat to hell and 75 was the last since they were pristine and in number order. The 73s were somewhere in between. I pulled about 60 cards that I'm going to go through again that were either candidates for 8s/9s or HOFers. Below is a sampling of a few of them. There were 2 Clementes, 2 Brocks, and 3 Brooks Robinsons. Unfortunately no Mike Schmidt RC or Nolan Ryan.

All in all very happy with these two purchases. The seller also sold off a 1974 complete factory set for about $700. I didn't win that one, but I bet the card were stellar.

Great job Ryan!!! Hopefully these make up for that bum 1975 rack pack I sold you. Must have been a rush when you realized the condition and the fact the majority of the 1975 set was there. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...congrats!!

Thanks Mike. I almost forgot about that rack pack. What a dog! These have been a nice surprise. Good to see you back on here.

I have subbed a 1000+ cards from 1975 Topps and only a handful of 10s. PSA is extremely tough on this issue. Always seem to get 8s on cards that look like surefire 10s.
