RCM 75th Anniversary history: Striking Impressions

Quite by good fortune, I was at a used book sale for a local library and found a copy of the Royal Canadian Mint's 75th anniversary history, Striking Impressions, by Dr. James A. Haxby. It is over 250 pp. and has lots of illustrations, including a number of patterns and sketches of proposed coins that I had never seen before.

I just finished it and was very pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the writing and the candor of the history. Although overall the mint comes across as a success (which I believe it to have been), the political history behind the creation of the Mint was fascinating and the problems it encountered in manufacturing coinage for Canada from time to time (demand changes were frequent and impossible to predict) were not glossed over. It was published in 1983 or 1984, so the more recent history isn't presented.

Anyhow, I thought I would recommend it to the group, if you can find it.

    I agree it's a good book.

I was a customer of the RCM back when it came out and they sent it free of charge.
