1980 Topps Rack Box Rip - Yet more Poppage

So I got this in the mail yesterday

Nice boxes. I may even keep a couple intact.

But I need one to rip. So I decided to rip this one as I want a Hendu rack that I can actually look at.

So I took the boxes home and ripped the first four racks in a flurry. Some pics to follow.

    So like I said, made quick work of four of the racks. Racks looked fine. Didn't find any Hendus but found these really nice HOFers. Am partial to the Bench but Sutter is tough and real fine.

    The cards in these racks really are fresh and nice. They seem to have less printing issues than my last vending box run.

    I'll post to this thread if/when I find something really good!

    I'll post a pic Doug when I am back where that rack is but I will say - it's not great. Hendu is high T/b and it is next to a really bad miscut Luis Gomez. Like, Luis is practically decapitated.

    I could not hold back busting them all because I love 1980 Topps. Especially, when you have packs that are unveiling cards as sharp as what you are pulling!

    Glad you guys are enjoying this!

    Anyway, tore through another 4 racks last night. Had a nice run of sharp commons like the previous racks. I won't belabor it with pics, you get the idea.



    Not much in the way of really sharp, centered stars/HOFers but wanted to post these pairs of beauties.

    Probably won't be able to get to the rest until the weekend's over but I'll try to post pics when I do!

    Those are some serious sharp cards. Probably the sharpest I've seen as far as 1980 Topps (compared to what I've seen when others usually rip 1980 Topps).

    Would love to see what some of these grade at. And don't forget to show us that Henderson rack.

    There were some really sharp cards and they are already headed to PSA. I'll definitely post the grades to this thread when I get them.

    I have made a note to post a pic of the Hendu rack when I get home. It will be anticlimactic!

    Meanwhile, I ripped a 1970 topps baseball cello over this fine 4th of July weekend. Have the pics ready to go!

    First wave of poppage from the rack box. Got about 100 more waiting to pop.

    This popped quick. Within a week. it really does help when you stick to all one year/brand.

    Not pleased about a few of these. The Brett was the really sweet one I posted above. I have to reexamine a bunch to see if there is any wiggle room.

    Still, I think the potential for pristine quality is more apparent in these racks than, say, the vending that I opened months ago. Then again, I also sent in a few higher pop cards this time around. What can I say, it's all about the registry...

    Ha! Good rule, though there is that added value of having subbed them yourself image

    Some spider veins perhaps? Would be interested to see a scan of that card when it arrives. I'm sure the surface issue (if it was indeed that) that caused the low grade is probably very hard to see from a scan and this would help prove my point that I made in other threads about how scans are often times misleading when it comes to grades.

    Yes that is very true about self-subbing. It is much more satisfying. I am guessing a 6 would be a pimple that I missed. Maybe a spider wrinkle.

    Yep Doug. Now if only I can find something that pays for the box lol.,,

    The Brett and Sutter would have went a long ways. I still think they have potential. I have had some nice bumps before on 1980s.

    Yes, it's frustrating to receive this sea of 9s. But seeing the Gem Mint Petey back-to-back with the Gem Mint Murph somehow makes it seem all worthwhile...
