does probstein always end the cards in a set break at the same time?

he doesn't put a minute or two in between the closing price of each card? Does not seem like that maximizes value. I am looking at buying some cards from a set and if I have a goal of picking up maybe 4 or 5 cards from the break, I may only be able to pick up 1 or 2 if they all end at the same time. What I am wiling to pay for some of the cards is dependent on what I have to pay for other cards in that same break.
Maybe I am missing something or am not the typical bidder.

Every card for a single consignor ends at the same time. Agreed it is not ideal bit assuming it is for record keeping.

That won't work if he is trying to determine how much to bid based on what other cards he may win in same round of auctions.

Don't understand why Rick does that, either.

I am sure this costs him money as many of us have the same dilemma when bidding on his ”set breaks.”
It has also prevented me from sending him a complete PSA graded vintage set because I don't want to lose out for all the reasons you describe (though I have used him for other consignments on a few occasions).

I've never really thought about that factor (prices) for set breaks, but I have been frustrated when player collections are broken up and offered all at the same time, figuring I can only go so hard at a minority of the cards, where as if they were spread out, I could be more aggressive. I guess because I don't build sets any more, it never came too mind.

I know with gixen you can group bids such that it will prevent additional items from being bid on and won if they are grouped together. I think it only works for a single win though, so you'd have to set up many groups, depending on what you wanted to do. This is a way to bid on multiple cards but also to limit spending if needed.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

Actually I still have problems with maxing out how many snipes the program will allow me with the same seller at the same time. Biddingscheduler usually starts rejecting after 15 or so snipes. Gavelsnipe seems to be more lenient though I only use it once BS has maxed out, so I haven't really pushed it to the limits.

I bid the same way. If I lose out on a few early from a set break, I usually always pump up later bids so I can try
to win some cards. I don't have an unlimited budget like some collectors.

Cards ending all at the same time is not a good way to break a set in my opinion.

I noticed this happened about a week or so ago with some '64 Phily Football PSA 9's.
All ended at the same time, the stars sold for decent money, but most of the commons and semi stars went
for 30-40% of their normal value. There were many 9's that hammered for less than $15.
Absolute steals. If I were the consignor of that particular lot, I wouldn't be very pleased
with the results. The buyers were plenty pleased however.

I can see problems putting a minute between auctions ending, with the volume that Probstein sells.
Say he has 600 items auctioning in a night. Very possible with Probstein. Spacing those cards out a minute
each would take 10 hours to auction. He'd have to start his auctions at 2pm to have them end by midnight!
That would be kind of insane.

    +1 Very well put.

Not everyone snipes. If I was selling through Rick, I would want at least 3 minutes between auctions to allow a single buyer to bid on more than just one of my cards before the auctions end.

    Thanks Rick.

By the way, your large scans are the best!

Personally, I've done the best with REA and PWCC.
