Is Card Orientation considered a mechanical error?

I've had numerous landscape oriented cards holdered with the wrong orientation.

A.) is it even possible to get PSA to re-holder with the correct orientation?

B.) do they view it as an error, and will the re-holder be free?

Since the standard holder is designed around a portrait (vertical) card, all landscape (horizontal) cards are going to be in the incorrect orientation unless you lay the holder down on it's side. Now, perhaps you mean that some are upright when the holder is laid down to the left and others are upright when laid down to the right? If so, not sure how PSA would view this but I'm guessing you would have to pay for a re-holder. You can give them a call to find out. I was hesitant to answer this thread because I wasn't sure if it was a joke, still not certain. Lol.

Not a joke at all. It may be a little OCD, but I would like the backs of both the vertically and landscape oriented cards from the same set to be consistent. PSA is very inconsistent with their holdering of landscape cards, but they should always be holdered so that the flip is to the right when viewed in landscape mode.

This really doesn't bother you? I just assume if something bugs me, it must bug everyone.

I never really thought about it to be honest. As each card is individually graded, I look at each card individually. As long as the cards are accurately graded, that's what I'm focusing on.

This definitely bothers me. If you display them it would drive me crazy not having them going the same way.

It really bothers me with 97 Topps Baseball. The player's name needs to be on the bottom not the top of the holder.

You can call and ask them if it's a mechanical error. I had this happen before, but when I called PSA, the rep said it would be a mechanical error if I had submitted the card, but if I purchased the card that way, it would not be free since I was not the original submitter. You can always ask again.

I collect ungraded cards and keep them in sheets in binders, but even ungraded the Topps 1954 set is terrible for OCD types because of the discordant backs ....mechanical error ? Bad sheet layout ? Poor top front margin ?

This absolutely drives me nuts. They should have an orientation for each set and stick to it.

I have a bunch of Parkhurst wrestling cards where the number should have been upright on front of the card and PSA slabbed them where they are all upside down.

Interesting. I would prefer it the wrong way actually.

Is there a way that is technically correct? I dont think so. I dont think PSA has ever set a standard. Not to sound crass but get over the extreme OCD! LOL I do jest...somewhat. If I allowed things like that to bother me, I would go insane.

The reason it's correct is because that way, the backs are oriented consistently with the normal vertically oriented cards.
