1986 Fleer Basketball

Do you think these cards have maxed in price? Thinking of selling my 9's and 8.5 Jordan and buy them back if and when prices go down. I'm a collector first but when I see the checklist going for $400 in PSA 9 it's hard not to cash in. What do you all think? Good time to sell?

I can't speak about the other cards in this set but I know the Jordan card seems to be increasing in certain grades. I remember when you could get an 8 for like 700-800, now there 1,000+
I have two fleer Jordan rc's and I won't ever sell them (unless I had to).

Always a dangerous game to try and pick a top as I think they will be higher priced 5 years from now...but if you're alright not owning the cards again why not take a chance and try to sell now and cash in. You never know maybe they will get a 10% drop in price sometime.

I took a break from my PSA 9 set after prices got frothy this summer. It seems like prices on PSA 9's have started to come back down to pre-run up prices. I am starting to see PSA 9 commons selling <$10 again.

Jordan 10 just cracked the 20k barrier on eBay the other day-- that card in all grades is a long term hold for me if there ever was a card to hold. Same for any HOFer in the set if the card is strong for the grade. My bet is the MJ will continue to rise over the years, as much as any card will.

I would love to someday own this set (raw NRMT or better of course) without the Jordans...but even that is quite pricey image

I'm glad the Jordan broke $20K. That implies a strong hobby. But it seems to me that card was selling for $40K circa 1998-2000 during the tech boom. Does anyone have any old data to confirm my potentially fading memory?

Red, the BGS 9.5 was selling for $15k or so but the PSA 10 was more like $10k. In that era you asked about. At the time BGS was tougher and brought more. Of course, BGS got easier and the prices reflect that.

IMHO the Jordan is the most over-priced, over-hyped pre 1990 card in the market today.

  • I told this before, several yrs ago, i bought a 86-7 fleer unopened pack. After waiting a few yrs, i decided to bust it open. Tho no Jordan, i had several nice cards. At the time i only used Beckett, so i sent 2 of them in..Worthy & the checklist...Well they got lost on their way there. I still have the others i put away in a binder.

Which also brings up my 81-2 topps?? the 2nd yr Larry Bird.....i bought a whole unopened box...and busted it too....Got several Larry Birds. I had them graded (SGC) and got back 8-9's) still have those other cards in a binder.

I was not much into basketball, but would of loved opening a Jordan RC.

Now it makes me wanna go look at the albulm again.
