    Different for sure. I have never found a counterstamped coin in circulation.

    It was part of a set of 50 1976-dated cents stamped with a state outline and the two-letter state abbreviation sold as a Bicentennial gimmick. Got spent.

    I have seen the 'state' counter stamped cents at coin shows in the past.... looked for some specific ones but never found them. Cheers, RickO

    I did!

    Those sets were all over the place when I was a kid. I started collecting in 1976.

    Neat find.

    You can sort of think of these as the prototype Statehood quarters of their day.

    I think there were ads for them in publications like TV Guide and such.
