Toned Peace Dollar, any idea on the VAM?

I am always on the lookout for toned peace dollars. Saw this on ebay. There is a large die break/crack. Any idea on the VAM if that should add value?

The majority of the SSDC vamworld listed die break varieties recognized by Leroy VanAllen and which command a premium are for die breaks located on the obverse or reverse devices, in particular in Liberty's hair or on Liberty's face and on the eagle. You need to show the reverse of the coin in order to make attribution possible. The small die break on lower left obverse field is interesting, and it does appear to have a listing solely for this feature. If it is 1923-D, it may be VAM 1O There are currently about 300 different die varieties of all 1923 Peace Dollar emissions, many of which are very low on the scale of interest to date collectors. The SSDC Registry presently has 6 VAM 1O coins with straight grades entered in sets: VF30, AU55, AU58, MS63, and 2-MS64. Below is a close-up plate of 1923-D VAM 1O:

I think you nailed it. That looks to be the identical dies break. Thanks!

Here is a link to photos of both sides of the coin

That is probably not in the SSDC Registry. Seller doesn't even know what it is.
I hate to think of how many snipe bids are already set for this.image

It says and Vamwolrd that this is an R6. Is that going to increase the value greatly?

Again I am interested in the coin due to its toning. Will I have to pay up much more for the VAM?

I know R6 usually means it's rare but this date has hundreds of VAM's so many of them will be rare.

  • I am not interested in Vams, so I have no idea of the value. R6 does mean that it is rare. If that does increase the value significantly, you most certainly have assured that you will have to pay up to win it by posting it here and giving anyone interested the heads up.
