This is a really gorgeous and rare variety of a popular civil war date gold dollar. You don't need a glass to see the doubling on this one. An early die state that shows a doubled row of beads on the headress , obvious doubling on the plumes, and distinct doubling on the U, S, O, and F, plus less obvious on the other letters. I have been looking for this variety for over 15 years and have looked at literally thousands of 1862's, and have found this and one other. Doug Winter sold an NGC MS65, finest known, as part of the Vasquez Rocks Gold Dollar collection last year for $4500. Doug has an interesting commentary on his site (http://raregoldcoins.com/learning/vasquez-rocks?pid=43).
PCGS price guide lists an MS62 value at $2750. This coin has beautiful gold toning with nice luster and great color. This will be, when submitted, the second highest graded PCGS coin, with the other being the pop top in 65.

Should be a bargain at $1399.
